These days I'm into doing creative stuff like making movies, writing a novel, even making (or trying to make) videogames.
I might try painting next.
I don't know why, I just feel like doing it.

My hobby throughout my whole life is swimming, and videogames. My dad got me into both swimming and videogames.

My primary hobby is Model Railroading.

I guess I got "interested" way back in 1975 when my Dad bought a standard starter-kit HO trainset. He then built a small (4 x 8 ) railroad with buildings he designed from photos of his youth in Montana. We played with that little railroad for almost a decade until I graduated from high-school.

From 1985-1999 I was in the Navy and stuck on the boat or in tiny apartments and couldn't enjoy railroading.

Then two Christmas' ago I did as railroad for a window-display for a friends store... and I started thinking about railroading again.

I have spent the last year and a half working on a bedroom-layout in N-scale... along with the wiring, designing, and everything that goes with it.

The best hobby in the world is Amateur radio, because it is an equipping hobby. what I mean by that is that everything you learn in Amateur Radio can help you with other parts of life, even any of your other hobbies! With Amateur Radio I am equipped to provide disaster relief communications, emergency communications and help other people with what I do for fun! And besides that, it is quite cheap to get into, and you only spend as much as you want. Amateur radio is very social; we learn to be outgoing in calling and answering calls all across the states and the world. It's also educational, we learn lots about how things work.

So for your best investment in hobby time, my vote is become a Ham Radio Operator!

I make my own jewelry and for friends - I got into it when I worked at Claire's in college and thought the stuff was overpriced and thought I could make it easy myself and for less money.

I also make collage type art. I got into this by watching home decorating shows and realized that if I made it myself not only would it be cheaper - but I'd have something PERFECT to match the rest of my decor. I'm not good at art, but the stuff is really interesting and looks good.

Amateur Naturalist - started by growing up in South Africa. Life long obsession.
(Under this heading is hiking, snorkelling, waterfall searching / swimming, aquarium, book study and writing an anecdotal fieldguide.)

I have a longer list for sports and leisure activities, but the naturalist thing takes up all my 'Hobby ' time.
