It may be your ligaments stretching. Making room for your growing baby. As long as it doesn't feel like menstrual cramps then you should be alright. I was the same way too, now it's my ribs that ache but it passes.

Sounds like Braxton Hicks to me. I started having them at 16 weeks. Time them, if they happen regularly with only 5 minutes apart go to the hospital, NOW. If they are sporadic then drink about 4 glasses of water and have a warm soak in the tub (not too hot though!).

Dehydration will bring on BH's as I found out. Pregnant women need 12 glasses of fluids a day, not 8 since you have to provide for a baby as well. The water also helps with a lot of other things like itchy skin, dandruff, muscle cramps, bowel movements, etc... Within a week of upping my water intake I felt so much better and the BH's stopped happening so frequently.

It gets better (ok worse, I'm being sarcastic LOL) as you get farther along. BH's can often become much stronger in intensity as your body practices for the big day. About 3 nights ago I spent 3 hours with false labor and I was so sore the next day. (of course I am 35 weeks along so was not totally surprised by this, and since I had none of the other symptoms of labor like a show, swelling or the pains getting any closer than 5 minutes apart for about an hour, then going back to being sporadic I just had fun panicking DH a bit about having a baby that night LOL).

Congrats on the new baby to be, and expect tons more weird pains, sensations and stuff to happen to your body. It's all part of being pregnant and so worth it in the long run.

You could be feeling braxton hicks, although it is early for you to feel them at 21wks they can be quite strong if you are dehydrated so make sure you are drinking enough. If they feel like sharp pains then they will be round ligament pains - also normal about your gestation time, nothing you can do but move slowly when getting up and down and twisting your torso. If you feel you need to take something for the pain only take paracetamol, (asprin and ibuprofen are not advised during pregnancy). Hope that helps :-)

It may not be a bad idea to get checked by a doctor. However I had this same feeling when I was around 20 weeks..and it was ligaments stretching. It was scary and I know how uncomfortable they can be..if it doesn't go away or just gets worse you may need to be checked just to be safe for you and your little baby.

With my second baby I had this at 29 weeks and just couldn't take not being able to get comfortable (6 hrs) so I went to the hospital and I was in premature labor. I spend 5 days in Tufts Medical Center stopping my labor.

GO TO THE ER AND GET CHECKED OUT.... BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY FOR YOUR BABY............
