Population numbers made it a forgone conclusion that China would be an enormous power some day. It is just amazing to most people that it has taken them sooooo long.

Times change, and France hasn't been much of a powerhouse since the days of Napolean. Their political pull has been good, but militarily - nahhhh. China, I believe, is the most populous country in the world, and has a growing impact in the world because of that, and they've been a military factor at least since the Korean war in the 1950's. Maybe those are some of the factors, but I agree with "yupchagee", the U.S. is the only country that deserves the veto power, if for no other reason than the fact that we're the only ones truly "footing-the-bill" of the U.N.. God Bless you.

Four nations invaded Germany at the end of the war:

Russia, France, England, and the United States. These four were at the forefront of the battle in WW II.

The nation was divided up four ways.

England ceded their part to us after a time.
France ceded theirs to Russia.

When the U.N. was formed, these nations were given the Veto for their contributions to the war. The Pacific theater determined who got the Veto there.

It wasn't based on power. It was based on effort and their dedication to the alliance. They earned it.

They were more powerfull than France. France wasn't much of a power then & is less of a power now. A good argument can be made that we (USA) are the only country that deserves veto power.
