One time as a wee kid, I began calling my mom by her given name. She didn't hear it, but dad did. When I called him by his name, a quick rap across the mouth put an end to that!

He said: "No matter how old you are, no matter how old you get, your parents will always be called 'mom' and 'dad' to you!"

Out of family respect, the same thing went for uncles, aunts and grandparents.

Jump ahead, decades later, it still holds with little ole me today.

Ah, such sweet memories are made of these!!
