Bush did not pardon Libby; he simply commuted his sentence so that Libby avoided serving any jail time - and to preserve Libby's silence. Had Libby been sent to prison, within weeks he would have been 'singing' to federal prosecutors, which would have brought down the entire Bush administration, including the President and Vice-President. Bush and Cheney knew that couldn't be risked.
Yes, all Presidents pardon their co-conspirators and criminals just before they leave office, but most who have been found guilty of political malfeasance at least have had to spend a certain amount of time in prison before they received their Presidential pardons. By commuting Libby's sentence, Bush made a mockery of our justice system and allowed one of his gang of thugs to assume any accountability for his wrongdoings.
Democrats are no more hypocritical than Republicans, and it's exactly such rhetoric, bias, hatred, and bigotry that continues to divide our country. We're supposed to be a nation unified, regardless of our race, creed, political affiliation, sexual persuasion, or gender. Yet, we continue to point fingers at our political opponents. If we're liberals, we "hate" conservatives; if we're conservatives, we "hate' liberals.
Before he leaves office, Bush will provide full pardons to as many of his criminal cronies as did Clinton - including "Scooter". And, again, that will be too bad for America, because it erodes our system of justice and fairness, proving once again that those with power, wealth or influence are a privileged class in this country. -RKO- 07/06/07

The democrats will do anything to make the republican party look bad. They could care less about the truth...they just want to be in the white house in '08.

Clinton pardoned 140 criminals on his last day in office. He pardoned 16 Puerto Rican terrorists just to try and get the Puerto Rican votes for his wife who was running for the Senate at the time.

The media blows everything way out of proportion. They show Imus saying one thing about the Rutgers girls basketball team and he gets fired, yet Rev. Al Sharpton says his anti-semetic remarks and he shoots his mouth off about how racist republicans are, and the media does nothing about it.

I find it funny that the democrats say that the 'government controls the media'...hahaha, every time I see that line I laugh. If the government controlled the media, I think they wouldn't bash Bush so much and they would start to show the approval rating for Congress (which is lower than the presidents)

Yea, theres hypocrisies just everywhere. Bush, Clinton, everywhere. They're both pretty big hypocrites on this one. See now you're hypocrite for picking just one side.

Bush's commutation is unique from any other pardons though. Because he bypassed justice departments, talked to no attorneys, no judge or anybody. He did it out of the blues without consulting Libby's lawyers, prosecutors..etc.

Clinton, although pardoned bunch of idiots he pardoned those who were represented by lawyers who submitted pardon requests to him. Lewis Libby, a lawyer, ironically once helped a guy to get pardon from Clinton. Clinton's pardon may have been controversial he did it by the books. Or more so than Bush granted this commutation.

It's stupid Bush granted this commutation in this manner, but also pretty stupid for Clintons to attack it. They're all idiots on this one.

You know that it was just a commute. You know how the system works for political reasons. The pardons come at the end of the presidents last term. Keep the issue alive till then. I hope we love the list when it comes out. It has to better than last time. Keep up the good work.

OK!if you know anything about the office of the Presidency than you would know that every President in modern history has the power to pardon anyone they want most of them don't do it until there about to leave the office they have held for that term.
Now are you serious after all Bush, has done you ask this question Libby, along with that dirt bag Cheney, outed a covert CIA,agent which put her in great jeopardy okay and the jury found him guilty and gave him thirty months in prison the jury had spoken okay than Bush, comes along and over rides the Judge and jury, and pardon the man saying he felt the time in prison was to excessive do you think he would do that for lay persons like you and I,of course not.
Now that's funny you think Democrats are hypocrites lets review the Republican, agenda for the past eleven years okay
total chaos, cover ups bribes Abramhoff,Congressman (Delay) do you want me to keep going, and you call them double standard get! real okay who got this country in the mess we are in now Democrats or Republicans? Duh! Guess who!
Now try okay but right now you lay blame with the Republican agenda that put this country in the mess we have now than when the Democrats start to screw up than you can sound off but right now you do not have a leg to stand on as of yet.

The Bush administration burned a CIA opp for the sake of politics. It is not worth arguing about. It happened. Scooter Libby threw sand in the eyes of the federal investigators. He lied to the the investigators and tried his best to obstruct justice. Now that he was convicted, the investigators had a chance to get him to talk in exchange for a reduce sentence. Bush with his pardon ended the investigation. It was clearly to obstruct justice for the people in his administration. It was not a favor to a friend.
It was not because it was excessive.(The sentence was typical for a person in his situation.)
It was to keep the White House above the law and allow the the president, vice president, cabinet members and others ruin the ability of our country to gather intelligence, protect our nation, or voice an honest word to the people for the sake of politics.
This is what is damaging democracy in America and only the corrupt and liars like you will do anything to get around.

Same reason that the Bush administration is getting raked over the coals for dismissing 8 federal prosecutors when Clinton fired 90+ - liberal bias in the media and democrats playing election politics.

What Clinton did or didn't do has nothing to do with it. 'He did something I think is wrong, so I get a pass on what I did wrong' is the logic of a five-year-old.
