I just got another 10 gallon tank...I'm not rich.. already had the goldfish in one, with a light, but the light was warming up the water too much and making it unsafe for my goldfish... I've got some guppies in the other 10 gallon now, side by side... with the light on it. My goldfish hasn't seemed active at all since I took the lid off with the lights... He's sitting in the corners.. I've got some decor in his tank so he can hide too, so what's wrong?

The fish probaly misses the light, maybe you could get a difrent light that is ither higher or dosen't give off as much heat, like a reading lamp just set near him, also make sure his water is being chenged regularly. rember fish like to have night and day so give him light in the day and no light at night, this should help.
Really I have never heard of an aquariun hood light giveing off enugh heat to make the water tempeture rise very much, not enugh to hurt the fish, and if he was more active with the light there then maybe he liked the warmpth... good luck.

Hi, It's not a good idea having the lid off the Goldfish tank, they are good jumpers. If the light was making the water too warm simply turn it off, fish don't need lights, in non-planted tanks lights are purely a cosmetic luxury for our benefit. for our viewing pleasure.

Goldfish enjoy interacting with their own kind but you'll need at least a 20 gallon if you get him a buddy.

goldfish do not need light but you let him have light so he might be (what's the word?), "addicted" to it. now that you have taken his own light away he might be missing it. since he was so used to the warmth it gave off the cold is a big change for him. maybe you should find a different lid with a safe light that won't harm the goldfish. i'm no expert but you might wanna give it a try!

I think he needs a friend to help him feel less lonely. Get him another goldfish to play with.

It's just a change in his environment and he will adjust soon enough, nothing to worry about.
