It all depends. Cats are solitary, and have... How can I put this? Unusual personalitys. They are easy to train, and since they are solitary, they dont have to be taken care of that often if you are away. On the other hand, birds hardly need taking care of at all. Yes, they are messy, but they can learn some pretty decent tricks. I have met a bird that learned to copy the Nextel ring. It can also talk, and do all sorts of other things. If you train it well, it can be a very entertaining pet. But cats and birds have unique personalities, and the choice is yours. One other thing. Cats usually live longer, depending on the bird. Larger birds (Such as the African Grey) can live a while, and learn faster than smaller birds. But they are also more dominent (They bite more often). Cats all live about the same time (10-15 years) but they aren't very dominent over you. The choice is yours. Good luck!

definetely a cat, no questions about it. Cats are very clean, they dont make a ton of noise, and of course the best reason is they will be by yours side at all times...Cats are very low maintenance.. Especially if you ever needed to take it to a vet. The vets near me wont even see a bird. Good Luck

well, id say cat. I had a bird, very messy/smelly and hard to clean. i got a parakeet, and she was very nervous/suspicious of people. if u DO get a bird, get 2 if they r parakeets so they will be happier. plus cats r the BOMB!!!

a cat of course. easy to take care of and if you have to go away you don't need anyone to really look after it. cats have such unusal personilities. Birds the feathers fall off and the bird seeds all over the floor, messy I think. good luck with choosing.

if you like to cuddle and give affection, get a cat! if you like to observe and do that kind of thing, get a bird! but theyres downsides to both! cats poo STINKS, and birds can get VERYY annoying when they chirp! but if you dont want to take any chances with your furnature ide say a bird

i love cats ("Cat Lady":p), but birds can be cool. Maybe you could get both, but be sure to keep them apart:p. If you can only get one, though, get a cat and try to get one from a shelter,if you can. There's so many little "babies" who don't have homes or anyone to love them.

They are very different pets, you are the only one that would know which pet would be best for you. If you don't know, then you aren't ready.
