It really is the nice thing to do. Pregnant women have so many things going on with their bodies, and each pregnancy is different. While you mom was fine with you she couldn't do that the next time. Pregnant women also have a lot more blood pumping through them which tires them out very easily. All in all, it is the best thing for a non-pregnant person to do.

Well I know that I get extremely dizzy and lightheaded if I just stand and don't sit down. I'm ok if I'm walking, but for some odd reason I just can't stand still for too long without feeling horrible. I also just think it's the right thing to do since some people on the bus are perfectly healthy and are able to stand for long times and pregnant women have a whole bunch of weight in the front of them that's extremely uncomfortable.

I don't think it is necessary to give up your seat. However, it is the polite and nice thing to do. I have never really been on public transport. However, I always let pregnant women in front of me in the bathroom or in any line. I know how uncomfortable pregnancy is. When I was pregnant, I had many complete strangers do nice things for me. I like to return the favor.

It is common courtesy, but it is one that has been lost (most people do not give up their seats to the handicapped or elderly anymore, either).

She may not have had a problem standing when noone gave her a seat, but I am sure she would have accepted if they did!

Pregnant women are carrying around extra weight and lose their balance easily. Standing too long can cause one to feel dizzy and faint. Then, you do not know if they are having other issues besides the normal ones.

Again, it is common courtesy but it is lost.

The 'need' depends upon the woman, different women are effected differently by pregnancy, but it is not only the pain and discomfort they feel, it is the risk of the situation that is to be taken into account. If the bus has to stop suddenly, the risk to the unborn child is greater when the woman is standing, as she is less steady on her feet, and any fall could injure or kill the unborn child. This is why it is necessary to stand, on top of the fact that it is the 'decent' thing to do!

It is common courtesy to let a pregnant woman have the seat. I have been pregnant and never expected someone to give their seat anywhere we were, but most of the time people did. I return the favor when I see a pregnant woman needing a seat.

Some preganant people really cannot handle standing up for a minute but has to go out and take care of everyday living. Her back is probably killing her from carrying all that weight, her breath is short, her feet swollen, feeling to vomit, extrememly tired. In short YES it is necessary because she's carring a whole new life inside of her. Its common decency! Its being human or just being nice! Give up the seat!

It is polite for someone to do it. Being pregnant is more difficult then not being pregnant due to the fact that were hot, carrying more weight, and just not feeling good all around. I get tired just showering anymore. My mom tells me how she used to move things when she was pregnant, work. and do all this stuff. She is like I know I should not have but that was a long time ago and things were different. I was like woo I don't know how you did it bc I don't think I could. I guess were just more spoiled these days but it is always better to be safe and spoiled to protect our babies, right?

It is polite and in Australia there are signs saying you have to give up your seat for elderley or pregnant women. And you can actualy get kicked off the bus if you dont.

I think it is polite, being pregnant is exhusting (I'm 39 weeks and if I have to stand up for long periods I feel sick). I dont use public transport but I found when I did that more elderley offered their seats to pregnant women that younger people. Its just good manners.

no, its not necessary, but its polite, thoughtful, and courteous. Being pregnant can be very tiring. I always give my seat on the bus or subway to pregnant women, women holding babies, women with toddlers, old men or women, anyone with a cast or a cane, etc... just because i can. Its not difficult for me and it may make the day easier for them.
