I know an African-American can be president, but is America ready for one. Hmmm??? I don't think so. I believe White America can't cope with an African-American being president. I don't care how intelligent, how resourceful, how good-looking or how well-spoken an African-American candidate is. White America composes ~67% of the US population with Hispanic and Black America composing the balance of ~15% and ~13%, respectively. Unfortunately a number of reasons have contributed to Obama (first serious black male contender) and Clinton (first serious white woman contender) being front runners in the Democratic Party, which are more a failure of the Bush Administration than anything else. A large number of White Americans say they are ready for an African-American president but their actions will disprove this. White America will nearly always come up with a reason that a particular black presidential candidate is un-electable (i.e. not enough experience, too pro-black, too devisive, and etc.).

According to a Newsweek poll, I'm ready for a black president but you aren't.
Confused?
Although 92 percent of the NEWSWEEK Poll’s respondents claim they would vote for a black candidate (up from 83 percent in 1991), only 59 percent believe the country is actually ready for an African-American president.
Similarly, 86 percent of voters say they would vote for a female commander in chief, but only 58 percent believe the country is ready for one .
We Americans are a contrary bunch, aren't we? Have more faith in ourselves than each other. Either that, or we are secretly racist and sexist, deny it vehemently, but attribute that same state of mind to others (in psychology they call that projection).

I believe America is at a point where it doesn't care if your a man or a woman, a white or a black, a Catholic or a Protestant... You can still be President.
However, America is not ready for a Muslim president or a Hispanic president or a gay president. So not all barriers are removed.

A black president is a real possibility, however Barack Obama needs to come clean with the American voters about his involvment with Tony Rezko, before he can be given real serious consideration.
It makes no sense for Obama to continue to avoid this issue. The voters will demand an explanation before long, and if not them, Hillary will push his hot button until he squeeks, because that's her style.

Should we really be looking at color still. It just goes to show that race is still a major issue in this country. Personally we just need to line up everybody in this country and have a judge just slam down the hammer. Get it all over with and call everybody equal. Then again, people side with people that are like minded. Its not a matter of race but mind that is the key. Until you change the mind, you will always have a divided group of people in this country. Race, Religion, Sex, you name it, Democrat, Republican.

nicely, maximum of u.s. is, as is obvious via his great help. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, there are nonetheless people who go with to hang to an previous racist ideology. are not getting me incorrect, an incredible form of the human beings balloting for McCain are hardworking straightforward human beings, as are those balloting for Obama. It amazes me how 2 human beings can get alongside so nicely until they show their politics. suddenly- that hardworking straightforward humorous guy is now a backwards racist hick-and that clever calm and picked up guy will become a limpwristed socialist radical. Politics are an endemic that infects otherwise clever human beings to take factors against one yet another whilst they actually could paintings at the same time in spite of their differing ideals. the possibility isn't from maximum people who're waiting, yet from the racist minority that are no longer.

I kinda understand the point you are trying to make, but the only way we can become a great nation, is if we don't have to bring race into every situation. It really doesn't matter if Barack Obama is Black, White, Green or Purple. As long as he is capable of doing the job, then so be it!!!!

We are ready, just not obama. MLK would of been but the powers that be killed him. Or like Paul Robeson just erased from history.
There will be a black president, as soon as one that will not be called an uncle tom for not supporting the liberal agenda.

I am not that optimistic, as the nation is still quite hateful. The history books don't tell the true story of slavery and Reconstruction, and I just don't know how a society can truly progress when the foundation is built on lies.
