i wanna write a short story...help?

what would be more reasonable,
living in a mobile self sufficent building
living on a planet in a self sufficent building
or just dying,

which would happen in the future

Since it is to happen in the future, it sounds like a science-fiction story, so living on another planet could sound interesting. But, I'd have the main character leave his self-sufficient building occasionally to explore the planet, maybe meet some of the inhabitants (if any), discover the native creatures, etc. I wouldn't go to extremes, however, if you want to make it believable.
