I'm booking a trip to NYNY and when my total comes up it shows a total and a deposit. I've never booked directly through the hotel and I was wondering when the deposit is charged to my card and when the left over balance is charged?

My guess is the deposit comes out immediately and the balance is billed after I check out. Is this correct?

Also, if the price drops before my trip do I automatically get the better rate even if I booked through one of their online promotions?

Thanks

Yea i know. 1 time in 10 years sounds like pretty good odds that I'll be fine. It could have happened at any hotel on the strip. I stayed there last year and had a great time.

Here is the deals with the CC charges... The deposit is charged immediately, which is the first nights charge plus taxes. You then give the credit card at check-in (some may put a hold charge on it for $150-200 or more) to cover the additional nights plus any other charges you make to the room such as bar and restuarants. At check-out you are billed whatever the balance of your tab is or you can pay cash.

As far as getting a better rate, this is one of the advantages of going direct rather than through a broker like Expedia. The casinos have pretty liberal cancellation policies, usually no more than 48 hours. So if at anytime you find a better deal, you can just cancel and rebook. I have done this countless times without a problem and it happens fairly often.

Another advantage to booking direct is that you can get your room comped if you play enough in the casino. If you book through a broker, you are out of luck since the room is paid for upfront.

I hope this helps. Have a great trip!

At the checkout time. Dude, you heard about what just happened there, right? Some dude shot a bunch of people. Look into the Mirage, bro. Nice place.

We stayed there several years ago and our card was charged at check out. We were also charged our booking price.

all cc bills are time on your anniversary date
they do this as a precaution if you do not come and penalty
you do not pay for service till it is rendered.
