I have a large tank of 12 fancy goldfish. Recently about 4 have taken to sitting on the bottom, feeding ok and swimming ok but spend alot of time just on the bottom. Another fish tucks itself in the corner, head down, tail up. The tail and a little underneath looks like its got red streaks? About a week ago I indtroduced 4 new fish to the tank along with the water they came in, and about 3 weeks ago I moved the tank downstairs and had to completely empty and refill it to do that. Most of the fish I've had trouble free for a number of years.

The first thing I would suggest is for you to check the ammonia and nitrite level in the tank. All of what you describe is associated with either ammonia or nitrite poisoning. If you don't have a test kit, you can take a sample of your water to your local pet store for testing. If the ammonia or nitrites come back high, water changes will be needed until the cycle adjusts and eliminates the problem for you.

If the ammonia and nitrites are both 0 in the tank, then I would say it's an internal infection. Red streaks in the fins are often associated with internal bacterial infections and the lack of energy is a common symptom of sickness in general. The best treatment for an internal infection would be to 1. feed the fish with medicated fish food for bacterial infections (available at most pet stores, just be sure to get the one for infection, not parasites) AND 2. treat the tank with a good antibiotic. My first choice for internal infections is Furanace or Furan 2. If those aren't available you can use tetracycline (such as Maracyn TC). Just treat as directed on the package. Feed the medicated food for 2 weeks or more to be sure you clear any remaining infection. Also be aware that anytime you treat a tank with antibiotics you damage or kill the bacteria responsible for your nitrogen cycle and you will see a sudden and sharp rise in the ammonia levels in the tank.

This is common when water condition is not ideal. Just need to provide good water condition, these red streaks should go away.

Never put pet store water in your tank. Have your water tested asap.

It might be ick. Take a water sample to petco or petsmart they can test the water for you. You can also buy a testing kit.
