I love the show too! I think that plural marriage isn't a bad idea for a few reasons. It would help keep the family unit more together, I believe, as there are more people involved with family business. Second, I think that it would produce a lot of children because you have this underlying competition (not in a bad way!) between wives, in addition to the fact that you get to sleep with your husband only on certain nights of the week. (When you have all access to your loved ones every night of the week, it's easier to put off sex for an entire week, but if I knew I was only going to be with my man 2 nights a week, then I'd have sex with him both nights!)
You're right that they would have to be registered, because I'd hate to see it being used in order to cheat the government out of money. I have no respect for people who cheat the system while the rest of us have to work hard to maintain our lifestyle!
Let me pose this question to you--would you have a problem with one women being married to many men? (Polyamory I think it's called)

Many men will say they don't object to and find nothing wrong with a man who has "multiple wives." But let's turn that around. How would you feel about your ONE wife having "multiple husbands?" Think about that for a while.
Then there will be the Biblical arguments, but this is 2000+ years later, and its not the custom now-even then, many were shying away from so many "wives." Besides registering to prevent welfare fraud (I don't see how any "registration" would have anything to do with preventing welfare fraud), how about forced STD testing? What about the long term effects on the children-physical, mental, emotional, and the stigmatism they would be put through because of their "Parents?" Remember, no birth control is 100% effective except 100% abstinence.
Sounds good-multiple wives...or does it really??

That is kind of a hard one because this is suppose to be the land of the free. And everyone is suppose to have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, if we just let everyone run around and do whatever they want, would the world really be a good place. I feel the same way about this one as I do about gay marriages. It should be legal, but it should not be called marriage. They could still be bound as if "married" though. I believe this because I think that by calling it marriage it forces people to accept and acknowledge their way of life. And that my friend, is what makes it illegal to me.

Well, plural marriages are illegal and probably should be. Big Love aside, I can't see how a man effectively takes care of 3 or four wives.

It is illegal except for in one town where some people believe it is what God wants. But the Bible says just the opposite in the New Testament. And even when more than one wife was permitted the man had to be able to afford them all. If someone is doing this for welfare, they are against God in many directions

YES. They are illegal for a reason. And for the record, Mormons only had plural marriages because of being persecuted and so many people dying. It's not legal in their faith anymore. You'd tick my friend off if she saw that.

No, plural marriage shouldn't be illegal. Women should be allowed to have several husbands.

um yea. having more than one wife/husband kind of defeats the purpose of getting married. find one person to be happy with and be happy you got them. there's a lot of people out there who get married and have " the grass is greener on the other side" syndrome, and those people are usually people that one would look at and be like "wow, how'd they even get ONE person to be with them?" be happy with one person in a marriage, everyone else can be friends

One man CANNOT truly LOVE more than one woman. Any man who thinks he can is a fool.
Any woman who thinks he can is a fool with incredibly low self esteem.

You will certainly end up with lots of unhappy housewives who hopefully will decide to not put out anymore with their husband.
