Because they don't really care about the law. They care about their own agenda.

Commuting Libby's sentence is within the law. You may not agree, but certainly with in the law. Illegal aliens are law breakers no if ands, or buts. Oh, and the same man that commuted Libby's sentence also wants to give the illegal aliens a pass. You're very moot.

It's called the punishment fitting the crime.
Libby was convicted of lying to cover up a non-crime (in that Fitzgerald never actually prosecuted anyone for the actual alleged crime of outing Plame as a covert op.) Libby still must pay an enormous fine and have 2 years probation.
Let's take another high profile case of perjury for example. Bill Clinton perjured himself in a civil rights suit (the Paula Jones sexual harrassment suit). Exactly how much jail time did Clinton get??? In fact, what punishment did he receive at all. Well, he got disbarred for 3 years. But then he wasn't even practicing law, was he. Wow! Some punishment. True, he did have a fine as well. I believe his legal defense fund paid that.
A suitable punishment for coming to our country illegally is not jail time either. It's to send the illegal person home.
Let the punishment fit the crime.

Dont forget bill Clinton purgered himself, should he get 18 month in prison too. Besideds he didnt pardon Libby, he reduced his sentence.
but alteast he didnt comune the sentence of a covected child molestor, like clinton Did. So if we are going to look at [ardons maybe we should start with the 120 that were given on 1-20-01, in exchange for gifts ands flat out bribes

First, you have to realize that in the Constitutions, there's a thing called Presidential Powers. Within the Presidential Powers, there's a power called a Presidential Pardon. A President may excuse a criminal's sentence for federal crimes, except for impeachments. Presidents tend to do them at the end of their second term, since they don't need to care much about their publicity anymore since they won't be running for President again. President Clinton did it at the end of his second term, to pardon his brother. President Bush is doing the same thing now. It really has nothing to do with our current Congress, it has more to do with the First Congress in the United States. They were the ones who established this clause in the articles in the Constitutions.

It wasnt me that made the choice to commute the sentence ( he does have a huge fine still to pay though which is more than Bill Clinton got for lying to a grand jury )

Because Bush doesn't care about the criminal justice system. Pushing for a bill that would have granted millions of illegals amnesty, and then commuting Scooter Libby's sentence? Something doesn't make sense here.

1) Illegally coming into the country is a crime.
2) Not being the person who leaked Valerie Plame, who happened to not be a covert agent, is not a crime. Richard Armitage of the State Department, a separate entity from the White House Administration, leaked her name.
