baseball grounder speed glove

Depends on the speed of the ball ...it usually is better to go after the ball...the grass on the field may be long and it will actually slow the ball down.. Young players often make the mistake of fielding ground balls with their glove directly beneath them, rather than extended out in front.

Use both hands. This is possibly the most critical aspect of fielding grounders that you can teach, and is oddly enough, the one most often ignored by coaches. When set to field a grounder, the glove should be placed on the ground, and the other hand should be open, above the glove, with the heels of the hand fairly close together (the analogy used for younger players is that of an alligator's mouth).

When the ball enters the glove, the secondary hand should automatically close over the ball and gather it in; not only does this ensure that the ball won't pop out, but it places the fielder into a favorable position to make a throw. The further, and less obvious benefit, is that balls that skip off of the heel of the glove cannot pop up and hit the fielder in the face if this basic fundamental is employed; the top hand will simply deflect the ball back down into the dirt where it can then be recovered.

Charge whenever feasible. If the ball is coming at you hard enough then you don't need to charge.

So, charge is the rule. The exception is when the ball is coming at you so quickly there is no time to charge. This typically applies only to infielders.

You always want to charge the ball so the ball doesn't have a chance to play you. I am a beast in the infield so take my advice.

Depends on where you are positioned, and how hard the ball is hit, as well as the speed of the batter and runners.

Charge the ball whenever possible, much less chance of it taking a nasty hop and eating you up.

Better to charge most times. You get to the ball quicker, and you are closer to your teammates when you have to throw it.

Never wait for it to come to you or the ball plays you.
