Yes, he's getting ready to shed. A moist hide on the warm end of the tank is a must to help with shedding. Crickets should be no bigger than the space between his eyes. Feed him at night, which is when they normally hunt. Do not use calci sand for geckos...they will get impacted sooner or later. It is a common problems we see at our hospital. Just because he hasn't gotten impacted yet doesn't mean he will. It's not worth taking a risk. Please go to the forums section on www.reptilerooms.com and read a lot of the Q & A's. Also, they have excellent care sheets.

Oh, it's just getting ready to shed. No worries. Just make sure that the moist box (if you don't have one, cut a hole in a container with a lid and put in a wet paper towel) is extra moist and leave your lizard alone. They get light up until when they shed, and an hour or two right before the shed, they get absolutely white. They don't usually want to eat much when it's nearly shedding time, because the weight of the falling off skin makes it uncomfortable to hunt. Your gecko will be absolutely fine again in a day at the most.
PS-they like to be left alone during the shedding time.
PPS-about the impaction thing-my leopard gecko has been sleeping on calci-sand for 2 months and has never been impacted-i wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.
Good luck

It sounds to me like your gecko is getting ready to shed. They will turn a pale color when they are about to do that. About the crickets. Some geckos will never eat crickets. I guess it goes to show that animals are as picky as we are. You can try giving it a few crickets and not meal worms or wax worms to see if it will eat them. But....it's perfectly normal if it doesn't want them.

its going to shed! this is a great part of a leopard geckos life. congradulations on your part for getting him to this stage in his life. i remember when i was a new leo owner and i had kept him on papertowls. i thought, when i looked into his cage, that when he was shedding that he was eating his paper towls but, he was eating his shedded skin(which is normal). to help him shed you need to have a hide out that has vermiculte or damp moss. spray this with a water sprayer to give it a damp feeling so it raises humidity in that hide spot. he will go there to shed. and him not eating crickets is normal. some just dont like crickets and make sure when you feed him you dust his food with calcium powder with vitamin d3.
good luck

It is getting ready to shed. As for feeding it, DO NOT feed it waxworms as a primary food source. These are low in nutrients and high in fat. Try feeding it smaller crickets, they may be too big for it.
