Nothing good is free. Somebody has to pay for it.

Generally Wi-Fi is considered "free" but some places do charge for it.

You need a computer, generally a laptop, which has a built in wi-fi card or a card that you plug into the computer. Some environments require you to have a company like Verizon, or Sprint (as examples) which are a service provider, esp. when the Wi-Fi is "free". So you can find free Wi-Fi like on college campuses, but you may need a provider just the same.

No, the term "WI-FI" stands for wireless fidelity. It has nothing to do with a free access. If someone has a completely locked down wireless network, it would still be called "WI-FI"

The fact that there is indeed free WI-FI in many public places is nice but all WI-FI isn't free. Let's just say that all free wireless hot spots are WI-FI, but not all WI-FI networks are free.

Wi Fi is an nick name for wireless internet connection.

In your home you pay for the internet service, the router and its configuration for you to get wireless internet connection. If I freeload by picking up your signal while in your driveway, it is free to me but not to you.

When you go to a wireless hot spot, buy a $0.50 cup of coffee for $4.00, fire up your notebook and surf the net is it free? The hot spot owner is paying for the ISP, its router, its configuraiton, etc and passing those costs to you.

So is anything free? Is there a free lunch? Really?
