The car is an '03 and has about 55k miles and two weeks ago the clutch broke. I got the car back today and the clutch pedal feels far different then it did before the clutch broke. I only owned the car a month so I am not sure how it should feel. The shop put on a kit with bearings and stuff to fix the car.

Now there is next to no resistance to the clutch pedal, and it doesn't gradually catch, more of a sudden catch.

Also second and third gears make a ggggrt noise, worse with second. Third is a slight grt that is not much, second is a long loud grrrrrt!. It sounds like I didn't fully engage the clutch. The other gears have no problems.

The shop said it should go away and to just drive carefully with the car until then...

Anyone here have any advice for me in this matter?

I smell burning plastic, like a burn clutch smell I bet, and can not get the thing to stop grinding. I have had to drive starting in second to avoid the grind between 1st - 2nd. Someone said it might not be shimmed correctly?

Took it back and they said the syncros are sticking and it is fine to drive but to shift in low RPMS. I feel so unsafe being in low RPMs on a 55mph road when I turn on to the road. I have to go at like 15-20mph before I can get into 3rd to get some speed slowly. It sucks.

My wifes similar car we bought at the same time just had her auto transmission go out so now I am in a big hole!

its not right.give that shop one more chance to make it right.
if they dont, take it to another shop. if that shop agrees that its not right then either sue or contact the bureau of automotive repair (California)or the better business bureau.

All these off the cuff answers!
What kind of car? What was wrong before that makes you think you had a bad clutch?
The clutch operation sounds ok but the grinding when going into gear is not and it could be something as simple as having put the wrong trans fluid back in after the clutch was installed. Dodge trucks won't shift right without the proper fluid.
The bottom line question is: Did the trans grind into gear before the clutch job? If not, then the shop needs to fix it, period. Otherwise it is separate issue not related to the clutch.

Take it back to the shop where you had it repaired and HAVE them send a mechanic out on a test drive with you, State to them that there is no way it should be acting like this. inform them that you desribed the problem to another mechanic and was told to bring it back. If they still argue inform them you will take it elswhere and when problem is found you will take the report to the police and magistrates office and file charges of false representation. Because I can state to you now no brand new clutch should be doing that at all. It should be tight yes and until you get used to it have a slight smell but not that you can not get it into gears!

Take it back to the mechanic shop and demand your money back, take it to a different shop and get it installed, I just recently broke the clutch on my acura integra and just got it fixed and it's awesome, no grinding or anything like it did before, it's not just the way its supposed to be trust me, take it back and demand money back or to put in a new one.

The jumpy starting would just be from the new clutch disk. The other things could be caused by a bad Clutch master cylinder, or Slave cylinder.
