I have seen them both in their prime and they were both dominant among their peers. They pitched in different times so the numbers cant really be compared. In my opinion they should both be in the hall of fame. I give the edge to mariano, but not by much.

Many fans don't remember that Gossage was a starter early in his career. He actually won 124 games and saved 310 in his career. Rivera has been a closer his entire career and currently has 424 saves. Rivera has also won a few games and has 61 in his career. Like others I also saw Gossage pitch and he was very intimidating as many of you have herd. Rivera is essentially a one pitch pitcher with that "cut" fastball he throws which has pretty much been unhittable throughout his career while Gossage would just throw it by you. Both were great in their primes but I would have to give the edge to Rivera.

well they were to different pitchers in different eras and goose gossage well he went out there for long d=] saves like 2 or 3 innings and Mariano Rivera is the BEST CLOSER IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL why lets see he has has 34 saves in the playoffs and a era 0.80 do you see that 0.80 wow and he has an career era 2.29 that great and he has 424 saves but what make Rivera different from goose is that he has done inf the playoffs the role he played for the yankees those years as you can see rivera is my choice

I think Rivera was better for a much longer period of time than Gossage, but in his day the Goose was probably more intimidating, and as likely to close out a game as Rivera.

having seen them both in their Prime I would go with Goose. Only because in Gooses day he had to pitch for 4-6 inning and was considered a closer. Mariano although great goes no more than two innings. Goose in my opinion should be in the hall of fame.

Rivera is the greatest closer in baseball history.
And I agree with the person above me, Goose deserves the HOF.

duh, rivera is, everytime the team needs him or torre does, he NEVER lets the team down and because of tht, most of the world series they've won was because of rivera doin a 1-2-3 inning.
