Electric stove, electric heat, and water heater are prolly the majors. Dishwasher can be if using drying cycle. Central heat and A/C units, freezers refrigerators. Small electric space heaters.Vacuum cleaners and small appliances (toasters, small convection ovens, griddles, irons, that utilize resistance wiring to heat up, can use a lot of electricity. Large window air conditioners can use a lot.

The others are right when they speak of the large users of power, but the little things can have a big impact on your bills too. The power supplies for laptop computers, the recharging bases for electric tooth brushes, shavers, trimmers, flashlights, batteries, or whatever is always using power if they are plugged in and not being used. They should be unplugged when not in use. Your door bell is often powered by a small transformer mounted in a closet somwhere and draws a fair amount of energy just sitting there waiting to be needed. Your internet modem is another power user even when it's not being used. Your automatic outdoor lights that turn on at dusk and motion senser light use energy all day every day just sitting on the wall. All of these things are small users but added together with the fish tanks and who knows what else can add up to a very large increase in you electric bills. And just like life it's the little things that matter most!

An electric dryer, computer, oven, air conditioner, refrigerator, ect.
Whenever you buy appliances check the energy efficiency on the label. Make sure that the appliance is energy efficient.
Try to keep air conditioner on a higher temperature but, a comfortable temperature, instead of being 70 degrees set it at 74-75 degrees.
When it is cool outside open up the windows instead of running air conditioners.
Also you can hang clothes outside if it is warm and sunny. If you have a gas dryer it saves you money on the gas and also electricity.

Sounds like your frig isn't defrosting and a build up of ice is blocking the air flow to the bottom. That would explain the cold top warm bottom and the frig running more. Not that big of an increase in you juice bill. Now if the compressor was bad, that would increase the amount. But if it's not making any noises and the freezer is working ,then it's not likely the compressor is bad. Pull the cover out of the back of the freezer and check for ice. If it's there, either the defrost timer went out or the heating coil. (which you'll find behind that same cover)

Running major appliances together... I used to run my washer/dryer and dishwasher all at the same time... I've cut my electric in half by running each major appliance seperately... I either use the washer OR the dryer and I run my dishwasher at night on time delay- Since the water is heated anyway when no one is using it.. I also turn my central air on around 72-75 degrees and use my ceiling fans to circulate the cooler air.. I've put all my small appliances on Power strips that I just flip off at night to cut the power of my chargers, tv, vcr,dvd and other small appliance. I've switched to using my smaller appliance vs. the large oven. I use my toaster oven and my crock pot... It saves quite a bit of energy not heating up my kitchen..... I hope this helps good luck

floor fans, window air conditioners, ceiling fans and lights, outside lighting, clocks, computers, unused items not being used but is still plugged in, tv's, dehumidifiers, small appliances in the kitchen, tools, dirty furnace filters make the fan run longer due to not cooling properly because the air cannot pass through.
