If he's not showing any other signs of illness, he should be fine. It's common for bettas to change colours as they grow older.

If you want to make sure he's not sick, look out for general symptoms such as: faded colours, changes in activity levels, clamped fins, refusal to eat or refusal to flare. If you notice any of these signs, post again with your tank specs (size, temperature, filter) for somemore help.

They can change colors slightly for several different reasons. If you are seeing a spot of color change it could be an indication of a problem though. If this is the case you'll need to add a few more details for any one to be able to help.

Sounds like you have a water quality problem. How long has it been since you did your regular third day partial water change? When ammonia builds up, it can burn the fish and cause sores. Too long and he will die.

BTW, it is not spelled beta, it is spelled betta. Also, it is pronounced BET-tah, not BAY-tah. Two t's make a short "e" as in letter, wetter, better, etc.

Sometimes they do this as they are reaching maturity, otherwise if it appears shiney or peachy on the gills it could be a parasite called velvet disease. Here is a good link with pictures.

if hew becoming brighter more vivid colours then hes happy and healthy but if hes a pale color then either your ph is off or his water temp is too cold.
