i know it has to be 180 o angle between two signs to be opposite, but is it because of their planets and their angle or does it mean they're emotionally opposite? what does it affect?

The funny thing is, opposite signs actually have a lot in common. Any sign in the Zodiac and its polar opposite both share the same "quality" (either cardinal, fixed, or mutable) and the same gender (feminine/negative, or masculine/positive). Example: Cancer and Capricorn are opposites, but they are both feminine and cardinal.
The term "opposite" in this case doesn't refer to the angle or position of planets, but the signs of the Zodiac themselves. I like to think of the signs as numbers on a clock. Whatever sign you are, your opposite sign would be directly across from you on the "clock."
It typically effects personality, because people are usually talking about their Sun signs. Opposites don't always attract though, but they won't always be at odds, either. Remember, polar opposite signs still have a few things in common.

This has been the subject of much debate. In the end I have started calling this "Same Sex Pairs." A chart displays opposite because of the way charts are cast graphically but are not opposites in the sense of forward and backward. Both same sex pairs are the same energy with progression through that energy in the opposite direction. We see in retrograde the aspect taking on the characteristics of its same sex pair on the other side of the chart. In practice when same sex pairs get together they either butt heads or harmonize like a tuning fork. This is the same thing that happens when matching aspects occur however matching aspects tend more often to harmonize. To speak of emotions more aspects of a particular chart would need to be known.

Yes, they are polar opposites in both ways.
Have you ever heard the saying "opposites attract" ?
1st house is the I principal
7th house is the WE principal
Opposites.
Think of Aries and Libra, very different.
Aries says I AM
Libra says WE BALANCE
different focus altogether.
Can they be compatiable, sure, each has something to offer that the other doesn't have.
