Do not listen to some of these folks they are ignorant !!!!this is how it is done you have three seperate oil chambers on you Hog . 1engine,2 primary, which is clutch oil and 3 transmision this is how to change the engine under your oil tank there is a tube that goes down through your frame on your right side you will find a allen bolt there to drain your oil .be carefull when you take off your oil filter not to damage the plastic sensor on your engine engine oil is three quarts 20-50 every 2000 miles next is your primary -clutch which is on the left side of engine the big cover with a circle and a oval cutout , at the rear of the cover at the bottom of it is a allen bolt remove it to drain clutch oil one quart 20- 50 what I use in them all , to fill remove oval cover that has 4 bolts, transmisson is also one quart 20-50 I use rev tech personal preferance . The tranny bolt is between the softail shocks in the middle under the motorcycle may take a mirror to find . To fill it is on the right side in a oval part on the foward end in about a 2 o`clock position, large about a 5/8 chrome allen, 20-50 revtech in mine others will disagree transmisson and primary should be changed every 4000 hope this is helpful ride on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nightrain has you covered. I would not use the lighter engine oil in the primary or transmission, though. The loads on these components are different, requiring a different lube. Get a service manual when you can. Don't worry about the owner's manual. The little bit of information there is covered in the other one.
Side note: the owner's manual for my '06 FXD35 had the engine and transmission oil plugs swapped. In the photos and everything. The service manual was correct.

Its all the same??? When you start having harsh shifting problems, lack of power and check engine lights remember that its all the same. Lexus's are very sensitive to fuel quality. Also the dealership is the best bet to getting the right owners manual for you vehicle. Hoped this helped.

The owner's manual wouldn't tell you squat about changing the oil anyway. Harley service manuals are about $60. You can find a Clymer manual for about half that.

nighttrain was really close, the primary does take 1 quart but the transmission takes 20 to 24 ounces only. and only put 3.5 quarts in the engine oil bag (pour about 6 ounces of oil in the new filter before installing it). because some of the older bikes have the tendency to puke oil out of the air breather tubes (air filter) when overfilled. take the bike out get the motor up to operating temp (10 miles) and check the oil again.

generally, you should not have to change the trans oil as often. Doing the crank case and primary - yes...

My best suggestion, take it to the dealer. No worries, guaranteed and not THAT expensive. I take my bike to the dealer for lots of stuff like that, and I am definetly a cheap @#$%/ . I just like the reassurance of them being blamed for something they did wrong, not me.
