It's hard to say because no one has reached they're prime yet, with Kobe and maybe McGrady being the exceptions.
With that said, judging by last season alone here's my picks:
5. Dwayne Wade: He's really done a lot and is a tremendous player with a lot of heart. His skills could rival those of Bryant and McGrady but not yet. He hasn't developed his perimeter shooting enough. He's good under the basket and in many clutch situations, but overall, wouldn't have won anything last year without Shaq, and won't be able to do anything without All-Star help.
4. Carmelo Anthony: Carmelo is so hard to stop down in the paint and is a magnificent scorer. Mildly hot temper dampened his season but still has some power from the perimeter. Defensively I believe he still has growing to do but with Kenyon Martin, Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby and future Hall of Famer Allen Iverson, I believe Melo is only starting. A slower rise to stardom than Wade and James, but will no doubt be there.
3. Tracy McGrady: Only because I have yet to see him work efficiently without another big name beside him. It's hard to see him go down with injuries because besides that, he's another amazing player without a first round victory. A terrific clutch player and all around scorer.
2. LeBron James: James is absolutely amazing. No other words can describe him. I still think he has childish mentalities and difficulty deciphering between good decisions and bad ones, LeBron will be the next Michael Jordon. He just simply need Scottie Pippen or John Paxson on his side.
1. Kobe Bryant: Arguably the best player to step on the court after Jordon retired for the second time from Washington, Kobe is another absolutely amazing player. He has the ability to pull his team from the pits and single handedly win the game with ease. His 50+ point games are all fantastic and amazing to watch but when he finds the guts to pass the ball to teammates who will produce, the team still wins. My only issue is ego and maybe leadership. Lacking in both departments is why he's never won a league MVP but for him to retire never having a league MVP, would be a crime.
Other people who might deserve an honorable mention would be: Vince Carter, Baron Davis, Gilbert Arenas, Michael Reed and Paul Pierce.
And of course, big men are a whole different story.

Kobe Bryant is the best of the bunch. The greatest threats to him here are McGrady & LeBron. T-Mac's effort has been questioned as has his consistency on defense. He can go point for point with Kobe better than anyone on this list. LeBron only has to upgrade his shooting and defense. He's the most unselfish of this group. Carmelo is coming into his own. He only needs to prove that his Dream Team performance will carry over to the regular NBA season. Wade improves every year. He needs to improve his defense. He'll play hard defensively, but he needs a tad more work.

T mac=still has to get out of first round
Lebron=only 22, will get better, not as clutch as wade or kobe because he missed 2 huge free throws against Detriot that would have given them the lead (However still won that game, amazing 48 points)
Melo= Not Known for good defense
Wade=Amazing player that is not as good as Kobe
Kobe=the best player in the world

Kobe is better cause he rarelly misses in the clutch James chokes, Melo rarely gets to show clucth time, Wade is better than Lebron but not Kobe T-Mac is my boy but his back is giving out
Kobe right now till he retires then Lebron or Wade will take over.
No Vince Carter?

Every one in this list is better in some way or the other. But if
you go by the stats, I think Kobe is far ahead followed by
Wade, James, TMac and Melo. Kobe has more NBA rings than Wade and hence I would say Kobe is better individual player.
So I would say them in order:
Kobe, Wade, James, Melo, TMac.

All of the players mentioned are great. T-mac, Lebron, Melo, Wade...there are among the best talents that NBA can offer. But compared to Kobe...these players, Kobe is on a higher level. The other guys can score, Kobe can do everything. Name it....long range 3 pointers, reverse dunks and layups, on ball defense, post up offense, block shots, play making abilites, mid range jumpers, sneaky steals, fadeaways, and in your face slams.

619 whata dumbass, i mean badass.

Same question keeps comin up different ways.

Kobe!

Aint much of a fan but he is the best in the league right now. Lebron will catch him as soon as he gets his shooting down. Then Wade followed closely by Melo. Why is Mcgrady here? He's way way over rated.

Kobe Bryant because He's the Only one besides D-Wade who has a championship(D-Wade's hurt too much)! And because Kobe has been a proven scorer over the years!
