Yes it is a proud moment indeed. I am now divorced from that marriage but the children, now adults, have renounced their own father and I am still called dad by them and we continue to have a deep meaningful relationship despite the fact that their mother and I are no longer together.

Wow that is so sweet. I remember when I was 7 (I am now 41!) moving into my stepmothers house. (my natural mother had abandoned myself and my brother when we are 1 and 2 years old) My dad was tucking me up in bed and said, do you want to call ****** mum or ****** - I remember to this day that I so wanted to call her mum and ever since that day, that is what I call her. She was the best thing that happened to me - she gave me a future that my natural mother could never have given me mainly because of her utter selfishness. Well done you - you have clearly made an impression on them. Have a cyber hug from me!. x

I'm a mummy, but I know what you mean. This question brings me back to the time when my first-born son called my (now) hubby dad. Hubby or B/F as he was then, had spent the previous night with me and when he left to go home, son had called out "Bye Dad. " Both "B/F" and myself were shocked and surprised that it happened, but it was a nice shock/surprise. I didn't put my son up to it!

Congrats! I think being called MOM or DAD is a great honor. It seems you've conquered a great feat. With the title comes lots of love. Now ... don't disappoint them.

No I don't agree. But I am happy for you. That is an honour! For me the greatest feeling is when my boyfriend or dog gazes into my eyes. I feel all melty inside! But in either your case or mine... It all stems from love. So in a sense, you and I do experience the exact same feeling! Hmmm... Maybe I do agree with you after all.

Being a woman I may have mixed feelings on my stepchildren calling me 'dad'---but for you, that must be terribly heartwarming. They sound like lucky children.
