Those bikes cannot be hot wired.
There is a resistor in the ignition switch that steps down the amperage going to the ECM (computer) to power it.
If the incorrect amperage goes to the ECM, it will not work.
Now that nothing works, you might have burnt out the ECM and instrument cluster.
ECM - $200
Instrument cluster - $450
It's the old saying, "If you don't know what you're doing, then don't do it."
Bring it to a shop to have the stuff checked out.
If you're lucky, it might be a cheap fix.

Go to a dealer with your vin number they can make a key right up for you (must prove you are the owner) for around $10

spend 50 on a locksmith the key code is on the bottom of the gas cap it will take him 15 min to pick

Ask the guy who used to own it, or take it to the shop. Sounds (no offense) stolen.
