Next question is why do these terrorists
lack the ability to choose and attack strategic targets (ones when destroyed actually produce results) and seem to be attracted to buses, subways and airports like mosquitoes to an electric lantern?

Terrorists find the UK a soft target for the simple reason that ever since the 90s, London has been a recruiting ground for militant Islamic groups. The British government has allowed this to continue into the present day. Radical Muslim clerics have been preaching and inculcating hatred at certain mosques, and numerous speciality Muslim shops have been selling material containing racist remarks about blacks, jews and gays.

In Britain, unlike in the USA, the Muslim community has been allowed to remain very separate rather than assimilating. Intelligence services across Europe have criticised Britain for the softly softly approach that has been used against radical groups in the UK, for example Hizbut Tahrir.

This is why the terrorists find it easier to plan things against Britain. These terrorists do NOT carry out attacks because of anything in the British foreign policy. The proof in this is that Islamic terrorists have been causing mayhem ever since the 1970s when the Ayatollah officially declared 'war against the west'. And countries have been attacked that have nothing to do with the US, UK, or Israel, for instance. Indonesia is having massive problems with Islamic terrorism, to give one example.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the way in which London has been used as a recruiting ground for terrorism, should get a copy of the brilliant book 'Londonistan' by Melanie Phillips.

Amazingly that is a tough question. The reason I use the word amazingly is that with all the news reports, the intelligence gathering, the fatwas, it is still not clear exactly what terrorist gain by attacking western countries. There are many theories and reasons given but I don't see the logic in any of them. I can only conclude for now that there is no one reason and little if any logic. The best explanation I could give is that somehow they truly believe violence is the will of their God.
I think the attacks will get worse over the next few years. There will come a day when they begin to slow down but how long I do not know maybe as late as next century.

Because they can.

Or at least they THINK they can.

What can be done? Not much, except for every thinking person in the world to shun, denounce and rat out every terrorist of every persuasion at every opportunity.

Further, my opinion is that terrorists don't deserve to live. We don't have to make a big show out of it, just kill them all. Their remains can be ground up and used as fertilizer. And I'm a pacifist!

In answer to your second question, the root of terrorism is to terrorise the masses, to put a dent in the psyche of everyday Joes like you and me, not to go up against the military (which would crush them like bugs and have no qualms about doing so!). The biggest problem in England is that would-be terrorists face is, we are (sadly) so USED TO terrorism that we are somewhat jaded and definitely not scared. Pissed off, certainly, but never afraid of them. We had the IRA for several decades and there are still a fair few people who lived through The Blitz. When you live through daily attacks where your homes are destroyed and you sleep in underground stations, you eat nothing but Spam for years on end and send your kids to Wales for safety's sake and still keep your grit and resolve, what more can I say except I don't know what they could do to us which is much worse.

Another irony of course is that there were innocent Muslims killed on 7/7 and 9/11, and I recall distinctly that the two men killed in the IRA bomb attack at South Quay (London, 1996) were innocent Muslims, but there doesn't seem to be a backlash against any of those attackers. Why was there no retaliation against the IRA on their ground (Eire)? Are they afraid of Celts? (the Romans certainly were!).

Oh, PS: Well done, Scotland. You guys are bricks.

Because we dont have the death penalty
Because there are communities within the uk that will offer assistance and unspoken support
Because the majority of our police do not carry guns
Because we do not have ID cards
Because our small country is easy to get in and out of
Because the British public will not stick together
Because we have too many pc and liberals
Because too many foreigners are now within the circle of power in this country
Because they see their own kind enjoying all the trappings of a western lifestyle
Need I go on!

I think the article speaks for itself -I quote, "since 9-11, the U.S. has cracked down on both travel and new-resident visas, making it hard for terrorists from outside to get into the country". This is something that the UK has failed to do. We have a huge problem with illegal immigration - we actually don't know how many immigrants that we have here - as confirmed by our own Government. Unbelievable isn't it? Also unbelievable is that we have five doctors working for the NHS that are terrorists. Unfortunately, our own Government is our worst enemy.

its the norm for backward people like these to do cowardly acts as they have done, but until they(the government) stop thinking they can police the world expect more of the same from these inbreeds. It will get worse before it gets better as our security in this country is a joke, airports get attacked then the police decide to come out in force

Primarily because the British are with the US in Iraq. Also becuase they have a large and growing Islamic minority from whom terrorist recruits are plentiful. They are not overly sucessful because of the skill and courage of the British security forces.

terrorrism is about status really, they want to be noticed if the attacked a country that wasnt as renowned as britain or america or most european countrys the media probable wouldnt cover it. Remember their aim is to cause as much disruption and fear as possible.

Because the immigration laws are not stringent enough. Because people are let through our borders too easily.
Because foreigners, are not vetted enough as to why they are here.
Because the government do not deport the ones who shouldn't be here.
Because we should bring our forces home to look after our own country.
