It seems as though it's just a "thing" people do now if they've been together for a little while. It's like it doesn't hold the same sentimental value and sacrement it did in the past because people know they can get it divorced or anulled so easily as we see so often in Hollywood. I figure why pay a whole bunch of money to go through procedure when one could just not get married and just be together for ever without any ceremony or go to the justice of the peace. Any why do marriage divorces cost so much with these prenups and alimony and child support? Gosh!

Just as the idea of the traditional values of marriage true romance is also gone. Love today is not like it used to be. And to be honest with you it sickens me. I was raised by my Grandparents who have been married now for 47 years and that is hte same love and devotion I want to have. I think that as times change and the roles of the house are changing where women are becoming bread winners and dominators, and we have men staying home we have lost that urge to stick it out through the good times and the bad, through richer and poorer and till death do we part.

I agree and long for a time when marriage will truly be seen as a sacrament, as a sacred joining of two lives - there's a lot of reasons for the change, but some might be the advent of birth control divorcing sex from committment and love, the growth of employment lawsuits that prevent men and women from meeting and flirting at one of the best places to meet eligible people - work, and a popular culture which treats sex as a sport, a joke, an insignificant act, rather than something that expresses a deep connection - or even committment. That's my opinion -

Most states have common law marriage laws. Even if you aren't married, you are still tied into a marriage by the government. Does that make sense? This mean she or he can still get half of everything if you were to split up.

My marriage is pure and true...it's hard to find that one person and people are afraid of growing old alone.

well i get what you mean, and i told my hub up front if ne thing ne one thing lead me to believe he was still unfaithful id leave, and hmm he didnt care apparently. PPl cant keep in in their pants or their eyes in their heads or their words to their self. Im all for the marriage aint easy and little spats shouldnt have words or divorce in them but when it comes to us being apart because of his job and then i see hes been unfaithful thats where i cant go. I cant have love with out the respect i deserve.we dont have kids or ne thing, only been together 6months and after he gets home from his 6months deployment we will probably getting divorce. I hate to be part of the statistic on young marriages but he did this, and yep i will forever see it as his fault cuz i have done nothing but love him. Had such nice plans for our life but he doesnt want to be with me.

The constant evolution of man means the constant re-inventing of our social paradigms. Marriage is not as valued as it once was. It could be the diversity of religions or just a societal attitude.
