Best:
1. "Ronbo" Reagan - Not just greatest President; Greatest man since Our Lord.
2. Washington - lit the beacon of freedom for a world in darkness.
3. Teddy "Big Stick" Roosevelt - conservationist, not enviro-nazi
4. Jefferson - Can you say, "Louisiana Purchase?" Opened U.S. to the wild, wild west!
5. Nixon - Strong cold warrior, ran a surplus, bombed the smithereens out of the commies, opened trade with China. So he was a bad liar - that should be a good trait
( unlike being a masterful liar like Billary. )
HONORABLE MENTION: George H.W. Bush - Had a troubled Presidency, but appointed the wisest Supreme Court Justice in U.S. history; Justice Clarence Thomas!
**Lincoln was our only military dictator, ruling by fiat and making war on his own people to achieve social change which would have been caused by a free market soon, anyway.
G."Dubya" Bush is good, but I can't give him top 5 due to his expansion of the Federal Government and support of shamnesty.**
WORST:
1. Franklin D. Roosevelt - Allied with the most evil dictator in Earth's history (FDR actually liked Stalin more than Churchill) and laid the foundation for the Soviet Bloc in postwar Europe. Started us down the road to Socialism and employed KGB Agents in the U.S. Government.
2. Lyndon Johnson - Got us half-involved in a war he didn't believe in and paved the road of shame for the U.S. military. Expanded the welfare state.
3. Carter - Do I really need to explain?!
4. Grant - inept drunkard; disgraced the office of the President
5. "Dishonest" Abe Lincoln - Failed to prevent the bloodiest war in U.S. history. Used The Constitution as a punch-line; "Habeas Corpus, Schmabeas Corpus!" (plus reasons cited above) 'sic semper tyrannis'

Just some comments: George Washington - when asked how he was to be addressed (Your Excellency? Your Highness?) he replied, 'Mr. President will do fine.' That shows a modest character. Also only served two terms, setting a good precedent. FDR - he REALLY didn't bring us out of the Depression, but at least he tried something. Didn't work? He tried something else. LBJ - absolutely the worst president ever. Miscalculated Vietnam, lied about its cost to Congress, who then turned around and failed to raise taxes to pay for both it and the Great Society, thus throwing fiscal sanity out the door. We've been paying ever since. A crude, myopic and shortsighted leader. On the other hand, probably the greatest Senate Majority Leader ever. Go figure. Coolidge (and Harding) - being reconsidered nowadays by historians as competent leaders for their times. For greatest, add Theodore Roosevelt (TR) - bully, brusk, big stick, but instituted many reforms in government regulation, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner - as well as Medal of Honor recipient!

Penelop-e,
How long have you been on the Bush adminstration payroll!?
I actually agree with some of your choices, though, and disagree with others. Biggest agreement: Wilson - made decisions while in office which proved detrimental to this country and others for many years following his presidency. Biggest disagreement: Lincoln - highly overrated, his policies directly/indirectly resulted in the Civil War; did more than any previous president to lead the nation toward large federal government bureauocracy, a trend that has continued ever since. His main objective was not to free the slaves but to "preserve the union", but at the cost of great human suffering, and the impoverishment of the southern half of it for decades to follow.
On the question of including Dubya in the top 5: Too outrageous for comment!

Herbert Hoover and Calvin Coolidge would make my bottom 5. Both contributed to the depression. Andrew Johnson losing most of the momentum after the civil war and allowing the South to lay down the basis for the Jim Crow laws would rate up there. Bush in the top 5? How did you come up with that?
FDR a 4 term president would beat him out. Kennedy in his 3 years, jumpstarted more then GWB in 7.5. Where is Eisenhower and his leadership in the battle to integrate the south? Hell, Clinton would beat him out just on the strength of not fighting the Republican congress and allowing them to enact large portion sof the Contract with America, which he took credit for. Just walk away from the keyboard and check into rehab with Al Gore III.
You and Chi Guy should hook up! Opposites do attract and you two are polar!

Pretty darn good lists. One change is I'd make is to take Andrew Johnson out of the list. Read his history, his impeachment was all about reconstruction, and defeating the last of the Confederates in Congress. He kept the Union together.
I'm scared that someone thinks Dewey was a president.

Lincoln wasn't the best, and he didn't free the slaves in the North. He believed in White supremicy and locked up good men who didn't agree with his policies. And Grant was one of the worst, he was a drunk, and a adulturer and his policies were horrible. Andrew Johnson was good in that he helped to start reconstruction in the South after the war for Southern Independence. So put Andrew Johnson back up for good presidents, and put Grant down for bad ones. And Lincoln too. I don't know what Millard Fillmore ever did to you. :)

Most of your picks are at least reasonable, but I'd swap GWB with FDR, which is truly a no-brainer, in your top 5.
In your bottom 5 I'd swap Clinton with Coolidge, the Great Depression President, and Wilson with GWB. Bottom 5 for receiving oral? Wow, your poor partner! Such a prude!

Looks pretty good to me. I think we have to wait a while to know how Clinton & GW Bush will be rated. Maybe James Buchanon instead of Wilson. I agree with your knickname for Slick Willie.

I agree with your top 4. Bush does not deserve anything. He has cost Republicans so much and it will take years to get it back. He sold us out on illegal immigration. He is a big government liberal in Republican clothing. The best thing he ever did was appoint originalist judges. Conservatives had to strong arm him with Alito (by getting rid of Harriet Myers)
