You can go to Princeton Review's web site and search for schools by location. They even have a tool that tells you which ones are a good fit for you. Columbia and NYU are the best schools in the city -- but are also extremely selective. Another school that is good but a little more accessible is Fordham.

Outside the city, you have decent schools like Rutgers, Vassar, Sarah Lawrence and SUNY Stony Brook.

Oh man there are plenty of colleges. NYU is probably the most popular college in New York, but Columbia (an Ivy League School) tops it education wise. There are many other small colleges such as Albany College which has a very good Med. Program

NYU! its an absolutely excellent journalism school and you can't beat studying journalism in the city where internships at places like New Yorker and The New York Times are possible.

Depends what you're looking for and how far out of the city you're willing to go (not to mention what your definition of "good" is)--but here are a few that have decent to great reputations:

MANHATTAN

NYU
Columbia
New School University
Manhattan Marymount
Pace
Fordham-Lincon Center

BRONX
Fordham-Rose Hill

BROOKLYN
Pratt (mostly an arts school)

Good luck.
