The Defense is the key for the Raiders. If they can perform close to what they did last year then the Raiders chances of improving greatly increase.
The offense will be better this year, whether the starter be Russel or McCown. The Offensive line should improve with a blocking system that wasn't established in the stone-age.

It will be a painful season for Raider Fans, because we of course want our team to win. But I think 6-8 wins is a reasonable prediction. With at least 2 wins in the division. Most games last year in the Division were close. We should have beaten the Chargers in San Diego, but got shafted on that Fumble... and Brooks is a complete moron.
An upset of San Diego is possible. But at minimum we will beat the Chiefs and possible split with the Broncos.

We are rebuilding so high expectations will not come until we show actual progress, which of course you cannot do without playing the game.

If Bush's leg heals completely the dude is gonna be a beast; steal of the draft.
Russell will be good, I am looking forward to a time when he has NFL experience under his belt.

I am looking forward to the 2008 season, when we will be a contender for the AFC Western Division.

I am a lifelong Chargers fan, but having thrown that passion out the window, I can say the best way for the Raiders to turn their ship around is simply for Al Davis to do the right thing and step down and sell the team. It's the best thing for the city of Oakland, the best thing for Raiders Nation, and the best thing for the NFL as a whole. Al Davis is a buffoon, an embarrassment, and someone who is incapable of reading the "writing on the wall". He holds the team back and drags it down. As long as he is still running the team, the Raiders will not even approach the 8-8 mark. An insult to the well-chronicled Raiders Glory. If there's a way to mess it up, to squander a great opportunity, the Al Davis-owned Oakland Raiders probably will.

Heck, sell the team to a group of wealthy, dedicated fans of Raider Nation. Even that will be an improvement over the current situation. At least a 2-3 year rebuilding and turnaround will be likely. At the present, there's simply no light at the end of the tunnel that stays long and unlit as long as Al Davis owns the team.

All that being said, if the Oakland Raiders hit 6-10, I will be surprised. They will probably beat KC in Oakland, but lose all other divisional games. I'm going for a 4-12 record for the 2007 Oakland Raiders.

They won't be much better than last year. They still have no offensive line, nobody that has proven they can play QB at the NFL level, and a running game that will be missing it's best player for 4 weeks. The recievers don't do a whole lot of good if the QB doesn't have time to get them the ball, which was a huge problem from last year and I don't think they addressed it in the off season. I'm thinking around a 4-12 or 5-11 season and 0-6 in the AFC West again.

Honestly, I don't think they're going to do that good. The reason that I say this is, if you look at rookies whose started at quarterback (especially those taken by the raiders) historically they don't really do that well. Russel is a physical specimen, that's for sure but how are his mechanics?
More importantly how's the raiders offensive line? This has got to be one of the worst lines I've seen in history, they were like a turn stop just opening the door for anybody who wanted to sack the quarterback. Under that kind of pressure a rookies going to run, this guy is big, he's fast, but he's no Vick, more like a Culpepper and we both know how that's working out. But on the other hand, that's why they play the game, who knows they could win the Superbowl (not likely, but it could happen.)

The Raiders are definitely moving in the right direction, but I think they will still struggle next year. I love the drafting of Russell, his upside is just amazing. In a couple years, I think he will be a top notch QB. But the history of rookie QB's shows that he will struggle. He will also be playing in some tough games, being that the Raiders play in the hardest division in football. Their defense is remarkable. Ranking third when their offense was never on the field shows that they can be the best in football if their offense could eat some clock. I think they will be a bottom five team next year but if they have another draft next year like they did this year, I can see them sneaking into the playoffs in 3-4 years.

i'm not a raider hater! they have the worst O line in the NFL! rhodes is out for the first 4 games! Curry is not that good of a WR! porter is good.. Russell is only a rookie with the worst line in football! can that zoone blocking hold up for there run game.. they do have a good Defense. 4-12

First of all, as a San Diego fan I can't stand the Raiders. Looking past that, I doubt they will finish better than 5-11 this season. There is no reason to believe that they will. And with teams like San Diego, Denver, and Kansas City (all playoff caliber teams) there is NO WAY they can even hope to win the division, much less the conference, much less the championship. You can disagree, but you'd be letting your loyalty cloud your judgement.

The Raiders will pick 5th in the 2008 draft. Better than last year, but nowhere near anything but waaaaay below average. They have taken a step in the right direction, but are at least four years away from the playoffs in the tough AFC. If they were in the NFC, maybe three years.

I don't think they'll start J Russell until mid season at least. I don't see any value in getting your million dollar man killed his rookie season. Vince Young came in late in the season and played well...Carson Palmer & Phillip Rivers both were excellent after sitting on the bench as rooks

Not trying to hate...but I think Oakland will have another good draft pick next year
