Okay, I want to start playing them.

1. How much would a good beginner's guitar cost, and do you have any suggestions for any certain brand or...guitar? lol.

2. Is there a program I should get, like a guitar for dummies type book or a DVD or something? And again, any specific instructions?
Thanks a bunch!

Starting out just any old guitar will do .when you get more experience you can look for more expensive ones.My son plays and he also reads a lot of guitar magazines. The magazines have a lot of information about playing the guitar and whats the best kind to buy.

(Many blessings.

First off, make sure you buy a new guitar with warrenty from a store like guitar center or musiciansfriend.com. Don't risk getting a used guitar off ebay or some other place. You want a guitar that has a decent setup to it (easy to play and stays in tune). You are likely to get a good setup with a new guitar, but with a used guitar you never know. Plus, even if the new guitar does not have a good setup already, the store you get from should be able to fix that for you. Having a good setup is important - if the guitar is too hard to play because of it, you may give up playing thinking that you're not good at it, when it's really the guitar.

Second, what kind of guitar you want to get depends of the kind of sound you like. Fenders are bright sounding with lots of treble, while Gibsons are more warm sounding with more bass to them. PRS (Paul Reed Smith) guitars are right in between these other two, combining the best of both worlds.

These three guitar brands are consider by many to be the best guitars made, and they all have entry level models available. Fender has the Squire series, Gibson owns the Epiphone brand, and PRS has the SE series of guitars. You can find Squire's and Epiphone's at a nice low price (about $150 and up), and sometimes with a package deal that includes an amp and some other stuff - not a bad deal for a beginner. PRS SE guitars are quite a bit more expensive, starting at about $500 - but they are a lot better (you get what you pay for).

As for learning how to play, everyone is different. Some people completly taught themselves how to play. Some learned by reading instruction books, and others learned through an instructer. I personally learned a little through all 3 of these methods.

Good luck and have fun!

Fender Stratocaster or Fender Squier is good for the money. It's not expensive and gets your started real quick.
Also...try some simple beginner books that teach you basic chords first and reading notes like:

E , A, G, B, D, and etc.

You can go to Guitar Center or Sam Ash and pick yourself a cheap little $5 book with chords pictures on them. This will really help you memorize basic chords. Learn the basic chords first like E, A, B, G, D and etc. Get those down first....then you get all complicated later. Good luck!

Get a good guitar tuner too like Korg or QucikTune...they are great and help you learn how to recognize pitch and notes. Again...good luck to you rock on!

if you live by a guitar center just go in the store. all the people that work by my house are very nice and friendly and they will let you know what all you will need to play. you might even want to take your guitar in there and they will play it and show you how it can sound. also i just bought a guitar a couple of months ago and i can tell you basically what you might be looking for. you need the picks, amp.,the cord going from the guitar to the amp. and a tunner to tune the guitar because they look the tune every now and then. thats about it. o ya and the strap that goes around you and guitar to play it standing up. and maybe even an instuctional dvd or somthng.

check out musiciansfriend.com or go to a guitar center to see what packages they have out. Most beginner packs will com with everything you need and a dvd to help you learn a way around a guitar. Squier is the brand everyone seems to get but every brand usually has a cheapy that you can buy.

As far as reading material, I wish I could help you on that but I'm a drummer so all the luck to you.

For a decent new-be guitar, get an Ibenez. They DO have models for the beginner that are inexpensive and very good. Your local music shop should have a plethora of good computer learner's Cd's available. They can help you pick one out better than I can because they can listen at the shop to how well you play now.

i have a cheap yamaha that i bought at sam's club. lol. it cost like a hundred bucks or something, and it came with an amp, strings, picks, and lots more. i love it and i still play it to this day, aint no way im getting a new one, because this is my first guitar, and i honestly cant tell the difference between guitars. i dont think they sell yamahas anymore at sam's club, but they did have fender (a good brand, or so i hear) starcaster or somehting. well my point is, when in doubt think sam's club. also to learn how to play, get guitar pro. its a program for they computer, and i honestly dont know how it works, but my friends use it, so go for it.

1. you can get a cheap guitar off ebay but i would advise you to go to a guitar shop and actually hold the guitar and see that it fits you and you like how it feels, if you are looking for a name brand i would go with fender but then again ebay has a wide variety of guitars for really great prices......

2. thers this really awesome program i use its called "super lead guitar" and my dad got it off ebay for me so i'm not sure if you could find it but it kicks asss...but i'm sure you could go find a basic beginners book somewhere like a book store or something. But i know that could get boring with just learning chords and stuff so i would advise you to learn tablature, its a more simpalier way of learning songs on guitar , there are websites where you can get just about any tabs for a song....

when i first started i had to teach myself guitar so i started with getting more coordination in my fingers i would start with

index finger on the 1st string (the string farthest from your face, the smallest string) 1st fret and then

middle finger on the 1st string 2nd fret and then

ring finger on the 1st string 3rd fret and then

little finger on the 1st string 4th fret and then repeate that untill you mastered it....

if you get bored with that then move to a different string and do the same rutine, yea its boring but it helps alot if you want to play guitar in a fast motion......

feel free to email me or IM me about anything else...

Right:

1) Anything with a cheap amp included, for a beginer a really cheap Stratocastor replica would be easy to learn on (its what i used)

2) All you really need is a few chord diagrams and you'll soon be able to understand it. Listen to songs you like then search for the tabs and learn to play when you want. I found that teachers can be restricting and preasurising.

. you will outgrow it or you wont. mine served me well for 8 years then i bought a fender squire for about $300. (no amp included)

get some effects pedals "BOSS metal zone distortion" and "WAH WAH"
