Are you the one driving? If so, bring some good, upbeat music.. nothing slow and sleepy. Bring some ice cold drinks and munchies. Sing with the radio. And if you find yourself slapping yourself awake, for Pete's sake, find a safe place to pull over and take a nap.
I travel a lot with my job, and I have found the best way to pass the time (as a passenger) is by sleeping. :-)

It's always nice to have someone to talk to or play Mad Libs with. If you're travelling by yourself, you may want bring some books on CD or maybe you have XM or Sirus radio that you can listen to.
When I moved from Columbus, Ohio to Dallas, Texas last year, my mom came with me and we just talked about stuff the entire way. We never turned the radio on once.

If you are driving, bring someone to talk to or use a handfree cell phone device and chat it up with someone. Find interesting places on your trip and take a couple of minutes to check them out. Keep music playing, snacks for energy level and roll down the window if you get sleepy.
