is it possible to like get engaged at the age of like 14 or 15 and then get married when your 18 or of legal age to marry?
just wondering.....

Let me clarify the legal age of marriage for a girl is 18 years & that of the boy is 21 years, in all the marriage laws of India. Getting engaged in any age will not infringe any provision of law in India but in case the legal age I mentioned for marriage is infringed & any marriage is solemnized between the parties not having the said legal age then it will be infringement of the Child Marriage Restraint Act, 1929 as well the condition of marriage regarding the age of the parties in the matrimonial law concerning the parties.

Yeah, you can get engaged while you're younger than the age of majority.

But it isn't legally binding. You've got this law under which ppl can claim damages if the engagement is broken. This law doesn't apply if you're a minor cos any legal contracts made by a minor are considered null and void right from the start...

And gettin married later would be upto you...

You can become engaged at any age. It's only marriage that you can't do until you're 18 or without parental consent before that. Not that I recommend it, but I guess a long engagement is better than rushing to the alter. I'm not sure 99% of the population knows themselves, or what they want from life at 14, even though we all thought we did................

My brother who is in his 20s,got married to a 14 year old,your parents jus have to sign the papers to give you over if you want to get engaged though you can do the with out papers at a young age

Yes, you can get engaged at an early age, but you have to wait until you are legally an adult before you can get married.

If you don't trust your partner, and want him commited with engagement, then what makes you think that after 3 - 4 years he will be still with you.

Age you are talking about is for putting a foundation for the next 30-50 years by studying well and being successful, concentrate on positive aspects rather than thinking about such issues.

Yes, today you call it a stupid question but this is the solution to most of we North Indians where dowery play a vital role in makeing the life of females. Govt of India makes rules so quickly that it has left the british far behind but does not know how to impliment it.
Child marriages are ristricted, even the new gen is not interested to get into early marriage. They want to fly and have their own days for some time in theis regard.
The social structure of UP, Bihar had forced middle class people to think in such way, reason dowery.
You might be aware of "Dullha Bazaar" in Bihar. Though every thing has changed the caste and creed system would take some time to break.
Its really tough time for parents haveing daughter to search good boy for their daughter. They search for good boy, his education, life and property of his parents, Kundali, his other relatives and total background check of the boys family.
In such case its really hard to get one of the choice, if they happen to get one they try the above system.
