My oldest son's did no longer fall off and we had to circulate returned to the dr and have it clipped and cauterized. They take a tiny pair of scissors and clip what's left of the umbilical cord off as close to the exterior as they are able to get, then they take a element that sounds like a great adventure and burn the tip to stop the bleeding. It did no longer injury my toddler in any respect, yet I freaked the hell out! The dr reported his cord grow to be very thick and his abdomen button grow to be purely too deep so it wasn't drying out. he's 12 now and his abdomen button is fairly very deep. this is definitely the main unearthly element i've got ever seen. LOL My youngest sons fell off after approximately 6 days.

You can submerge it and clean it, but don't get too rough with it, because it may still be herniated (you might see a bit of his intestine bulge out when he's crying). Don't use alcohol -- the AAP recommends against it. Just use mild soap.

You should still wipe it off with a cotton balls dipped in alcohol until it is completely healed over. This will keep it from getting infected. If it starts to get red or ooze pus, it is infected and you need to take him to his doctor.

Usually when it falls off, it is completely healed. You can clean it with rubbing alcohol if there are any scabs left...it will help dry them up and heal faster.

You can, no harm as long as you are gentle and don't use anything too harsh.
