I read in the paper that a millionare in Hong Kong has a meal parpared that cost $30,000. It was for chairty and was the most expensive meal ever. The chefs had a hard time comming up with stuff to make it that expensive.
After 10 courses, prepared by some of the most famous chefs in the world, each accompanied by its own rare wine, each diner was presented with a bill for one million Thai baht. That's about $30,000, and the tax and tip were not included.
The six chefs who prepared the meal were flown in from France, Germany and Italy. The ingredients they used were flown in from all over the world.
Diners started with a crème brulee of foie gras, then moved on to French scallops with Italian black truffles, Maine lobster, and Japanese beef -- and they were not even halfway through the menu. Whether anyone had room for the dessert is not known. It was a giant gingerbread pyramid. (The complete menu is printed below.)
The meal was served on the 65th floor of the luxurious Lebua Hotel.
Nothing was overlooked. Even the wine pairings were carefully thought out. About $200,000 of some of the finest wines in the world, including rare Rothschild estate wines, considered some of the best of the last century, were included, according to Britain's Guardian newspaper. The menu also featured some of the best French champagnes.
Deepak Ohri, Lebua's managing director and one of the event's organizers admitted $30,000 is a lot to pay for a meal.
"When we look at only dinner, yes, it is expensive," he told the AP. "But when you look at the whole experience, it's the experience of a lifetime."

When my Dad used to get meals instead of overtime.
He used to travel to and from places, set up and take down the exhibitions as well as sometimes running them too.
Me and Mum used to go with him and help him all the time, so we used to go out for meals at some fine places.
I think the most expensive was when I was about 14 or 15 at a local inn type thing, at the time it was about £750 for 3 courses. Baring in mind this was about 1989 ish.

When me and my partner stayed at a 5* hotel in Edinburgh. The bill for a 3 course meal for us both was £90 - without tip, and not taking into account drinks, because we got a bottle of sparkling wine on the house due to their error with the booking, and subsequently poor service on arrival. The wine we were given was the cheapest bottle on the menu, but it was still £35! How can anyone justify that? The meal itself was very nicely presented but the tiniest portions, in the middle of a massive plate. I felt a bit out of place there really.
Earlier this year, we went to a private members club in London, we only ate a main course and it was on buy one get one free deal which was why we went, and that was expensive, but very filling and tasty.
Most expensive bill was a chinese meal for my birthday, but we ended up spending loads on champagne, double what the total food bill was.

Our roommate's highschool graduation dinner. It was just his family and us. There were 13 people and it was one of those fancy places where you get a choice of only 2 or 3 things per category - appetizer, dinner, desert... It was $150 per meal. His step-mom paid for everyone thankfully because I would never pay that much for food unless I'm at the grocery store!!!

Can't remember how many francs now but it was in a little place called Riec sur Belon, in France. A restaurant called "Chez Melanie"
Started with oysters, followed by Palourdes Farcis (tiny stuffed clams), followed by Lobster, then the most fabulous chocolate mousse laced with cognac.

Probably steak at a fancy-shmancy steakhouse...it was about $40 altogether, I think.
Though one of the best meals I had was when I was doing catering in college--we catered a surf-n-turf meal for a bunch of totally undeserving Homecoming Week flunkies.
They had NY strips, lobster tails, Caesar salad, and cheesecake.
I traded a guy my lobster tail, so I had two NY strips, salad, and 2 pieces of cheesecake.
Awesome.
And I got it for free since I was working.
