I would recommend Stephen King's Firestarter. Is was the fist novel I read (I think I was eleven). It is a very interesting story. It is completely entertaining and an easy read.
The title character of Firestarter is Charlene "Charlie" McGee, a young girl possessing many potential abilities, amongst them most formally pyrokinesis; the ability to create fire with her mind. Charlie is a mutant, she was born with her abilities due to her parents, Andrew "Andy" McGee and Vicky Tomlinson, having participated in a mysterious experiment during college.
It is not horror, but more of a thriller. Charlie is now on the run as the government tries to track her sown to study her and eventually use her as a weapon.

10th grade? Hmm, maybe you should check out Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. It's short and rather mature, but I think maybe you're old enough for it now. *I'll warn you, it's not a happyhappyjoyjoy book.* Then there's Flowers for Algernon. I can't remember the author's name, but it's great. Tick Tock by Dean Koontz is super funny and easy to read and really good. If you haven't read Animal Farm by George Orwell or Farenheit 451 by now, you should check these two out as well. I know all these are classics *except for TickTock* but they're classics for a reason. Because they are terrific.

i know books you would absolutely love... my friend is obsessed with the series
It's the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer
-Twilight (book 1)
-New Moon (book 2)
-Eclipse (book 3) will be out on Aug. 7th 2007
I'm sorry but these books aren't short D:
They at least contain an amount of pages of 400 to 600 pages. But you wouldn't regret reading them... I hope >.<'
Oh, I know a book. It's short but not as short:
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
I cried.. It was sad but that's just me D:<

Any of the books by Sarah Dessen. You can really relate to them. (I'm going into 10th grade as well!) My two favorites are "Someone Like You" and "This Lullaby". Read them, you'll love them!
