Reduction.

Reduction and oxidation are opposites. Together they are called redox reactions.
Remember that the oxidation state is increasing with the amount of positive charge on the ion (number of electrons removed).
So +3 has a higher ox state (is more oxidized) than +2. When you *reduce* the ox state, you are chemically reducing the ion.

Incidentally, hydrogenation generally corresponds to a reduction, this is usually with organic compounds, not metal ions. Dehydrogenation would be the opposite.

Very simple REDUCTION because oxidation(removal of electron) state of metals can be lowered by adding electrons.
And addition of electron is is nothing but called REDUCTION
