MEEEEEEE. I hate it!
I'd never get a pet without researching the proper care first. I wish people would realise that animals aren't just there to entertain us, we're supposed to look after them. As for people that buy animals on a whim - GRRR.
You can't just go by what you hear on the street, or how your neighbour does or doesn't look after their animal, you have to actually FIND STUFF OUT.

I absolutely agree!
I think there are a ton of people that just purchase or adopt animals without realizing the responsibility involved.
It's a full-time commitment and if someone isn't willing to do the proper research, spend appropriate money for veterinary care, and give the attention love and support that the animal needs:
They shouldn't consider owning a pet in the first place.
As an Animal Science major and someone studying for my VTNE - I love animals. I also realize however, that with an upcoming baby, my college expenses and overall life situation - owning a pet right now is an absolute no-no.
I consider this a responsible decision.

People purchasing animals on a 'whim' drives me up a wall. There was actually some lady on Answers who said she moved her ferret to her garage because it smelled and had behavioral issues. HER GARAGE!!! Another lady (just answered her question today) explained she 'didn't want to keep her ferret in its cage forever' but that it was just out of control.
The problems these two woman had could have been avoided simply by researching the animals they own and using some simple behavior modification skills.
Its complete stupidity...I see it everyday.
While I'm ranting...lets not forget the lady that couldn't believe her ferret constantly goes after her toilette bowl brush. I felt like saying 'Duh dummy...put the toilette bowl brush up while you have your animal running around.' They really don't know any better. Its about being a responsible owner.
GEEZ!! lol :)

Me. My friend did it once. She saw a chihuahua in the pound with her mom. And because it was SO cute they just HAD to adopt it the next day.
I told her chihuahua's are some of the hardest dogs to poddy train (I know this because I once wanted to get one, but I actually did the research). And she was like "REALLY?" Very annoying.
She overfeeds her dog too. Just the other day she was telling me how the vet said [the dog] needed to go on a diet. Looks like she didn't research how much food they eat either.

Yes, you are right, not only do they have kids too, they're also allowed to drive and speak. Now that's dangerous. Some people! Animals deserve respect.
