It sounds like it's in self-clean mode. It locks so you can't open it up in the middle of the cycle. There's not much you can do but wait.

Good luck-

you closed the lever and started the cleaning cycle. Don't panic, it's fine. You can trip or turn off the circuit breaker in the fuse box if it scares you. Once it cools unlock the lever an it should be fine. If it is some other weird problem, and the oven starts to smoke or glow red, don't be afraid to call 911 and get the fire department to come out.

1) NEVER leave anything in your oven...because ya never know what can happen.

2) Try turning it off or at least turning the heat down.

3) It may be in self cleaning mode. See if you can turn that off or check the manual.

4) If all else fails, figure out a way to get it unplugged before your house burns down! Cooking paper is usually only good to 400 degrees or so. If your oven is self-cleaning, it may get to be over 500 degrees.

Sounds like its in a cleaning cycle. Throw the breaker at the box. When the oven cools off it should unlock.

If this is an emergency, Throw the breaker! It should be located by the main wire leading from the pole ,to the building. There's one that controls all the house,if you don't have yours listed, like mine isn't. Throw the main switch, than you can go back with more time to pin point the one breaker. Bye, Hurry!

find your breaker box and shut off the power to the oven (usually has its own switch) if you can't tell which one it is, hit the MAIN one and shut all of the power off.

the oven is on a cleaning cycle and will not unlock until it is cool enough.

I think you got a lot of good answers, but I am the only one with a pretty blue hat. To better see how your oven works, go to http://appliancequickfix.com/

Set the oven to clean and manually push the door switch in and see if the latch does not move. If it finishes latching keep the switch depressed and hit cancel. This should reset the latch.

Sounds like you turned it onto Self Clean. Turn it off Self Clean.
