I listen to ESPN and many of the talk show hosts always make fun of him and call him a "jerk" etc. I would like to know why... I am not a baseball fan, and never will be but I am curious why a player like him is treated like that. Are there specific incidents that happened in the past? Is it because he is making the richest salary in sports....? I am just trying to understand.

Well to the one's that's because didn't win a championship.. well he's only been with the yankees for one or two seasons, right? The yankees generally haven't done well in the past few years, I think... So why is he the only one blamed?
Ifit's because he has a hot wife, how about Tony Parker?
If it's because he cheated on his wife, only God knows how many sports players do this which is not coming to the limelight... I am not justifying this by any means, but I just can't put together the degree of hate with the "crime" that he has committed especially since it has nothing to do with sports... Well our former President did that and only republicans have gone to a great degree of making fun at him... and that too is politically motivated... I just can't comprehend the level of hatred and the "crime"

bone thugs... Kobe and T.O are famous (infamous) for other things such as running other people and creating conflict in the locker room and also constantly saying stupid things to the media and just doing stupid stuff... A-rod hasn't done any of that, right?? Lebron James is going to end up making more money than Michael Jordan (supposedly), and he has not won a championship. But he is never called a jerk. How about Kevin Garnett? Is he a jerk also??

I don't hate him. The people who hate him, hate him because he isn't on their team. As for cheating on his wife? Show me one person who hasn't done something wrong in his life. Also show me a person who would'nt take the money he makes for hitting a ball...cmon...let's be real here.

The reason people hate A-rod is a complex answer. Granted, A-rod is a phenomenal talent... one of the best five-tool talents in the game. The hatred initially started with the monster contract he signed with the Texas Rangers (252 million over 10 years). It is still the current highest contract ever given to an MLB player. That much money comes with a target on your back.
When he was traded to the Yankees he was entering a market that expects a championship every year. He put up exceptional numbers in the regular season (even winning an MVP in 2005), but his numbers in the post season were less than amazing. He was hitting under .200 in all of his post season appearances and that brought the wrath of the Yankees' fans upon him.
If he can help the Yankees win a championship, all will be forgotten. Until then, most will see him as an over-paid pretty-boy that cannot deliver in the clutch. Hitting 45 homers a season doesn't mean anything if you can't hit one in the post-season when your team really needs it.

Part of it is from the perception that (prior to this year) he never came through in big spots. As a Yankee, he's been terrible in the postseason (except against Minnesota), and he just seemed to have a tendency to not deliver in late innings of close games.
Couple that with all the money he's making, and some people are going to resent him.
EDIT: Actually, he's been with the yankees for four seasons now, and he has probably been their most underperforming postseason player in that span.

I guess there are 250 million reasons to hate Alex. The Contract he signed made him a marked man and he hasn't helped his image any. His quiet and reserved demeanor makes him appear cocky at times and his recent tryst with the model in Toronto hasn't helped either. What happens at the end of this season will further throw him into the fray. Should he opt out of the NY Yankees contract for a richer contract he becomes not only marked but with a bullseye on his forehead.

I'm an Angels fan but I still think that A-Rod is a great player. I only hate him because he wears a Yankee uniform. That's just the way it's supposed to be. Or as the 14 yr old Yankee fans proclaim...I'm just jealous!

i'm a huge a-rod fan so don't get me wrong when i say he has done many things he shouldn't have such has cheat on his wife, hit the ball out of the first basemans glove in the world series, and yell at a player when he was trying to catch a ball
also he doesn't play well in pressure situations
