You can cash a money order anywhere. The best money order to get is at the post office or walmart if you have one. Please get one that can be validated easily. If you go to the local gas station on the corner the funds will probably be held so that funds can be validated. As long as it is federal or at a well known store you should have no problem cashing it anywhere. Especially a bank. There may be a small fee at some places

If it's a postal money order, take it to the post office or your bank. Most banks won't cash money orders unless you have an account there. I found out the hard way!

Go to any bank they will cash it. They might charge you 3 dollars or something if you dont have an account. But most banks wont charge you that.
All supermarkets will cash it but they will charge you money depending on the size of the amount. If you use it when you buy food they will accept it as cash and usually not charge you the fee.

since a money order is immediate cash you can deposit it freely into your checking account and as soon as it goes thru the system you will be able to use it. Certainly the bank would let you cash it outright if you have that same amount already in your account as backup.

He should make the money order payable to you and you then will take this to the bank and endorse it just like you would if you were cashing a check.

As long as you have a bank account, they should cash it for you as long as the money order is filled out correctly.
