I like suspense, some mystery if you will, a touch of history, a bit of fantasy. Perhaps some views I had never thought of before, and a some light comedy to keep me smiling.

I also like a 'clean' story - leave the sex, blood and violence to the television. I have a brain I like to use, so for go the graphic details if you please!

Oh - and it has to have a happy ending...real life stinks - so when I read, I DEMAND it to be a good, happy ending!

I love to read a story that allows me to use my imagination...give me this, and I will take it from there....

I enjoy reading thoughts and feelings of characters that I can relate to; you know, feeling like "Boy, I know exactly what she's going through," and that kind of thing.

I also look for scenes that will touch my heart, such as the final part of A Tale of Two Cities, etc. I look probably more than anything for something touching that the author writes a character as thinking, saying, or doing.

good writing and a good story its hard to find sometimes, take ann rice for example, the story she tells are wonderful but her style is sooooooooo cheesy that i cant read her anymore, michale chriton is a case of a good story laden with so much techno babble even a star trek fan like my self closed the book,

i think the author that has it all is clive barker, exquisite writing,
with great stories the include fantasy action horror romance sex all in one each and every book is so littered with colorful detail you'd swear hes been to these places cause no mind could conjure this on its own

I look for good characters that have plot driven changes and go through some kind of personal growth. I look for vivid imagery. I like a book that makes me ask questions about myself. Basically anything that makes me think.

While reading, I'd look for some unusual sentences or phrases worth reflecting or recalling for the classes I teach or for immediate references in my writing to friends or in any related academic writing. For instance: a character in Samuel Beckett's "Malone Dies" says, "I am what I do"; this is quite unusual since I used to read in the Bible when Moses met God who said, "I am what I am". Therefore, the mentioned sentence needs reinterpretation to explore what Beckett really means and what the real message he would like us readers to interpret. However, we might hesitate and a professor (Beckett scholar) might urge us by the usual, "You know what I mean?"

Ummm..well, I like to read books with alot of suspense, maybe a mystery..I dont exactly like books that have a happy beggining, middle, and end..

I like books that either have a happy ending(because it makes me smile) or a sad one (to appreciate what I have)..I like when the characters struggle int he beggining and then triumph in the end..or when they basically suffer throughout the whole book(twisted, i kno)

Fantasy is always fun to read and I like to have a good laugh now in then in a book..

I recently read a book with some comedy(not jokes, just some things that made me laugh..), sadness(a character, a character u grow to like, dying.), romance, and action..I really liked it..So i guess my taste in books varies...Im a random chick..so almost anything goes with me..
