Only if you live by your principles. Then life is very hard.

But it is also very good. Because it means living free.

I do not know if it is always hard work. I do not know how much of it is my upbringing. I guess a lot of it is due to the sacrifices my parents made to get me a private education. And they still paid their taxes.

I know that no amount of governmental subsidy will equalize people's outcomes. It just can't happen.

So I look to opportunity. In the US, certain opportunity should be equal: public education. That should be equal. But we have a whole bunch of Americans dropping out. I want to know why. I want to know why they expect me to pay taxes to support them when they are dropping out.

If you really want to better your life, I think it is possible.

I made my own life - I grew up in Wisconsin, but didn't want to live there forever, so after college, I moved to Washington, DC with no job and enough money to last 2 months. But I found a job, then a better one, met the man who has become my husband, we have a great daughter and I worked my way up in my profession to a senior management position.

We aren't rich. We aren't poor - we are comfortably middle class and content with our lives. A lot of people told me that I would fail when I moved out here alone. But I was determined, and I did it.

Tough question. You might as well ask "Who is John Galt?" Seriously, hard work and desire can overcome most anything. Unfortunately, too many people are growing up with a sense of entitlement. That is to say, they want it all, but don't want to work for it. They want it given to them.

Is it hard? No, not really. The basic tool for success is provided, free of charge! Public education. If you take advantage of the free education being given to you, then you are taking the first step at "making it" in life. Life is what you make of it. If you choose to do the things necessary to be successful, then you will be.

Yea it is hard...nothing great ever comes easy. If you really want what ever it is you are striving for...put your heart into it and you will be rewarded. It does not matter your race, ethnicity, culture, social class, or any of the sorts, if you are willing to put 110% effort in to get around the obstacles in life, you will make it.

Yes. Sometimes people work hard and achieve the "American dream" and at the end of the day, they are still not happy and do not feel fulfilled. To find true peace and happiness, to me is the epitome of "making it in life" hard work and success do not guarantee that.

No there is nothing hard work cannot overcome!
I don't care what race you are, what your economic background is, if you work hard you can get to where you want in life.

Contrary to the liberal philosophy, no. People can make anything that they would like out of life.

If I can go from being homeless 15 years ago to where I am now, WITHOUT ANY government assistance, than others can as well.

In most cases no. If you aren't intelligent enough or something maybe it would be harder. But people who blame the schools, or the neighborhood or whatever the excuse is, it is just that an excuse.

"Don't take life so seriously. You'll never get out of it alive."

Life is what you make it. If you work hard, you get more benefits and luxuries. If you sit on your @ss all day and do nothing, that's what you will get from life.
