Depends on the connection speed. It shouldn't unless they are both downloading huge files at the same time.

It is important to see how fast the wireless connection is running, and the signal strength. The further away, the poorer the signal strength will be, and the slower the connection will be. Hovering the mouse over the icon for the wireless connection will give the signal stenght and speed of connection. If the signal strength is Poor or Very Poor, then you need to look at resiting the router and/or computer. If possible use external high gain aerials on the router and PC.

If the wi-fi connection speed is greater than your internet connection speed then the wi-fi should not be slowing it down at all. If this is the case, then try setting your PC up via wired lan and running a speed test to check that you are getting the correct connection speed
Just to let you know you should get a faster speed using a ethernet cord. Faster transfer rates.

Hello, (ANS) No.1 If your using windows XP (home or Pro) you can use the built in feature called "Internet Connection Sharing" this will allow you to do precisely what your asking. No.2 YES! another option you can use is:- x1 broadband phone line connected to the internet using a Wireless router. Most WiFi routers allow you to either plug in a wired connection (i.e. normally they have x4 LAN ports for wired connections too) or you could run both desktop & laptop as Wireless clients connecting to the internet via your wireless router. Note: Both PC & laptop would need a WiFi networking adapter though but this would 100% definitely work. Hope that all makes sense? Kind Regards Ivan computer veteran & system builder.

If they are sharing the internet connection, logically the speed won't be the same. If on your laptop you download a big file, on your desktop the speed will decrease, of course. There's not much you can do about it...

It is like 2 kitchen sinks using one pipe, you have no control of the total speed and based on your own skill level very unlikely you know how to set up and throttle a computer-based router.
