We live here and we love outdoor activities. so we go hiking at Red Rocks and camping on Mt Charleston.
We don't go to the strip unless we're going to a concert or special event. We do like Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill. Good food, good music, fun dancing.
As far as food, the restaurants (suprisingly) at the Silverton Hotel/Casino are great and reasonably priced. Off the strip, but right off I 15 and Blue diamond. Their steakhouse, Twin Creeks, is excellent!

You really don't think us locals give out our secrets. It has taken us a long time to find them, why share? If we share, then all the places will be filled with tourists. We're trying to get away from you. We don't want every place in Vegas turned into a tourist trap. You dress funny, you walk around with the 1000 yards stare, you want everything to be free, you are so busy looking for where you are that you are constantly running into us, you rent all the good cars and take up all the good parking places at the airport. buy up all the out of town newspapers before we can get to them, you spend hours sitting at the dining table for hours after you have finished your meal even though there is a long line. you take up our favorite video machines and slots, you get lost and keep bugging us with questions as to where you are or where you should be, you jaywalk right into traffic, lose your luggage at the airport and where the same clothes for days, you play only one coin at a time and blow the jackpots that we work for. you take up all the good parking places. So welcome to Vegas and have a good time. Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas including a lot of your money that you worked so hard for, and for that we thank you.
From a Las Vegan. I was really just kidding about all that stuff written above. Come here, enjoy the sights, hang on to your wallet and handbag. I hope you have one of the best times you have had in a long time. So please forgive my sarcasm. It was only meant in fun.
When you get to Vegas there are a lot of free magazines that will let you know the best places to go to eat, see shows, etc.

well for the most part, unless we're going to a club, we avoid the strip all together. usually if we go out to a casino we go to green valley ranch (the district) or sunset station becuase its across the street and I love the mexican restaurant they have there (Guadalajara). theres a mall over here too. Firefly is a locals place and close to the strip.. known for their tapas. I would definately suggest stopping there if you want the local feel. if you want cheap vegas food, go to ellis island on koval behind the strip. ahh good times there. warning: its pretty ghetto and not for the high maintenance.. but we go all the time and we're still alive =).

they may go to a local's casino, such as Sam's Town, you would be surprised at the different stuff if you rent a car and go for a little day trip.Look at the web site for the las vegas advisor, it will give you some ideas.
