If you must put something on your steak, you obviously have an inferior cut, and should not have it in front of you anyway.
If you MUST have an inferior cut, due to whatever reason, be sure to prepare it properly, and after it goes on the grill nothing more will be required. Search my 360 and or Y!A for proper preparation techniques of inferior meat cuts. It is possible to make $1.99/lb steak nearly as good as $16.99/lb steak. I know, because I can, and do, work this magic.

Ketchup or barbecue sauce. Steak deserves onions and mushrooms in gravy... and to sit alongside mashed potato and peas.

do not put A1 on after it's done, the steak doesn't want any sauce
