Hello, I have a 96' mitsubishi eclipse, and recently it started to make this squieking noise when i turn left or right. It seems to be coming from the steering wheel. Also it became much harder to turn the steering wheel. Please help, people who know stuff about cars. What could this problem be? Solution? If I'll have to fix anything how much will it cost me?

Thanks everyone.

Open the hood and have someone stand there while you turn the steering right and left to see if they can tell where the noise is coming from. I bet it is the power steering pump belt slipping. If so, it needs to be replaced.

If the noise only happens when you turn the steering wheel left or right, have someone check to see if you have enough power steering fluid.

Also have them check the functioning of the power steering pump.

It is hard to gauge but you can expect to spend roughly $200 +/- for repairs if it is the power steering pump.

Good luck.

Seems like power steering pump or belt.

If it is just a belt, and you know somebody who can adjust or replace it, maybe less than $50, but you may need to do it again every few thousand miles.

If it is a pump, expect to pay $200 or more.

Power steering belt is slipping, (easy fix) or power steering pump is going out. (MUCH more expensive.)
