As a government-award-winning lifelong grunge-hippie rabble-rouser, I never expected to live that long anyways. Even today, I don't want to live to be old. I understand that I make enemies of the creeps in the world with my writings, but I'd much rather die execution style for my beliefs than of old age in obscurity. I'm no longer afraid of death, just the means thereof.
Personally, I'd much rather help research and write about the technologies that will allow us to live forever in computer networks than worry about dying human.

not afraid of dying but dont look for things that I can die from. People are afraid of dying because they want to live life to the fullest but social responsibilities limits them. They dont want to be social oucasts for doing everything that they want to. I dont care what people think about me. I go through life with the attitude of living like I am dying so that way I am always ready should my time come. I can honestly look back on my life and say I have no regrets that I have done most of the things I have wanted to do, there are still a few on the list but I will never accoplish the entire list because it grows and changes constantly.
People fear death because they are unsure of whether there is a hereafter or not, and if there is then, that begs the question "Am I going to Heaven or Hell?". They also fear death because they realize there are things in their life they have left unfinished or people they have left unforgiven.

I think most people aren't so much afraid of dying, as much as they are afraid to live. Our society dictates that it's just not acceptable. I am 25 years old and have lived in more places since I was 18 than most people will live or visit in their lifetime. And although I've never had roots anywhere, I would suggest that before anyone decides to settle down to do the same. Not only would that mean you are living life....I believe that it would put an end to the fear of living. Once you diminish the fear to live, you'll no longer fear the death that will end that life. And, no, I am not afraid of dying (it's the idea of pain that makes me uncomfortable!).

My reluctance to die has to do with it being the end- no more chances, no more exciting things to do and learn- no more. It's not fear exactly. It's just that I"m having fun being alive and want to keep doing it as long as possible.
For many it is because they've been taught there is a chance of severe horrific punishment after death. Even those who believe in heaven usually have an inkling that maybe they won't end up there.

not afraid of death - but I really hate pain.
Now that I have kids I find I don't do as dangerous things as I used to. (ie: race cars, sno-board jumps, etc) because I feel I have way too much to lose now, when before it didn't bother me at all.
I could never figure out why death was so much harder for people who believe in something after this, and those who believe this life is it seem to handle it much better...?

Death is passing on from one place to the other in my belief. I know many whom have died and during their process were seeing beautiful wonderful things as they passed. It didn't seem bad to me. People are afraid of the unknown, therefore afraid of dying.

I have died during a major heart attack, it was like falling asleep and, when the doctors brought me around, I was angry. I told them I was comfortable and now, had to go through it all again.
I felt ashamed that I was willing to leave my wife but, I couldn't help it.
I am not afraid of dying. I believe in what Jesus preached, that if you believe you will be saved. I do believe and will be saved.

i do fear the day i will die. Not because i am afraid of the pain, but becuase i want to know what changes will take place in the world long after i have gone. what will it feel like to be in the future and i want to experience it. the thought of not being able to experience it makes me very sad. also, i want to feel how it feels to be dead. i know that sounds strange but i guess it is what it is. I do dread the day i will die.

No, I'm not afraid of death.
We will all die someday, and I enjoy life every day (and especially when I get home from work, and the kids come up to me screaming "Daddy!").
