Could a beautiful school of Cardinal Tetras live with Tiger Barbs? They could, right? Because they don't have big fins for the Tiger's to nip? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

The large size and constant activity can be very stressful to a laid back and timid fish like Cardinal, even if the barbs don't actually go after them, so I really don't recommend it. Cardinals and these types of tetra's need calm environments, which is exactly what tiger barbs are not.

Decide whether you want an active, feisty tank, or a calm, timid tank, and then choose tankmates appropriately.

Dependant on the size of the tank and plant/rock cover possibly. If the tiger barbs are kept in a large enough school, they should mostly keep their fin nipping to each other but provide plenty of cover for the more timid cardinal tetras to take to if a tiger barb has a fancy for tetra fin. It's probably best to keep them in as large a tank as possible due to the activity rate of each aswell, tigers are very active fish and could cause undue stress in the tetras if left in any tank under 20 gallons. Schools of about 8 - 12 of each would be perfect in a 30 gallon, though not less than 6 for either.

Just because the Tetras don't have long fins, doesn't mean they won't be attacked. Tiger Barbs can be very aggressive. The Barbs may just tear the Tetras to bits. If that is a risk you are willing to take, go ahead, but I don't suggest it.

it depends on the size of your tank. if you have a large tank (over 35 gallons) with lots of plants and places to hide they will do fine. however tiger barbs are very active and could cause the tetras to become stressed and get sick. if you really want to go for it and watch them for a few days. if they dont seem like they are going to get along take them back to the store. (check with your pet store to make sure they accept returns, good ones do). as with other peoples reply you should chose a type of fish and stick with it. tetras will do better with other small tetras. if you have any more questions that dont seem to be answered here fish stores are by far the most knowledgeable people when it comes to your fish ask them.

The Cardinals would be fine, just make sure you have a school of at least six so they don't get over-stressed.

yes they could, but as you seem to know, tiger barbs are semi-aggressive....so be prepared, they might chase and nip anyhoo.
